He’s in the business of exposing the truth...

Eddie Fitzgerald, L.A.P.D.'s finest, lives for his job and nothing else, until he decides to take a break at the family summer home and is held at gunpoint by the most annoying, sassiest woman to ever cross his path. But something is off about Amy, and the more he learns about her, the more he’s convinced she’s a fugitive.

When her past catches up to her, Amy has no choice but to trust Eddie. Unfortunately, Eddie has demons of his own, and struggles with the decision to protect her or uphold the law.

The truth takes them down a deadly path, and only love can save them.

Excerpt:

He had an unforgettable face. Sharp cheekbones, square jaws and piercing gray eyes that didn’t say much. His dark wavy hair was cut short, but not too short. Unruly strands rebelled and curled across his brow and at his nape. His skin was bronze, like he spent time outdoors. The turned down waistband indicated no tan lines either. A nudist? Interesting.
“About last night,” she said casually, noticing he hadn’t touched his coffee. “I don’t usually pull a gun on unsuspecting people, and I make a really mean cup of coffee.” She slid the steaming cup closer. “Go on, try it.”
She’d hoped for a smile, but got a frown instead. Mr. Fitzgerald was obviously not a morning person. How long was he planning on staying? Baron and Kara Fitzgerald tended to visit for a few days to a week before heading back to L.A.
“Excuse me for asking a dumb question, but who is Raelynn?” Eddie asked.
“My daughter.”
He looked around, his gaze zeroing on the toys piled by the door leading to the patio before coming back to her. “How old is she?”
“Almost five going on thirty. Her birthday is in two weeks.”
“Where is she?”
“Still asleep, but she’ll be up any minute. Why do you ask?”
“I’d like us to have an adult discussion without a child clouding anyone’s judgment.”
He was going to say he didn’t need a housekeeper again. She just knew it. “Okay, but FYI, I have an iron-clad contract, so if you are thinking of kicking us out, I will sue you from here to kingdom come and win,” she said with a confidence she didn’t feel.
Eddie scowled. “Why would I kick you out?”
“Because you said you didn’t need me last night and that I should take a hike.”
“I never said that.”
“That’s what I heard.” She picked up her coffee mug with an unsteady hand and sipped, her gaze not shifting from his. “Why don’t we talk outside? You go put on a shirt or something while I dish up your breakfast.”
Eddie stared down at his bare chest as though realizing for the first time he was shirtless. A sheepish expression softened his features and heat coiled in Amy’s stomach, surprising her. It shot up a notch when he turned, giving her a view of his back. Powerful broad shoulders. Narrow hips. Killer ass. The man had a beautiful body.
Just before he disappeared into the hallway leading to the master bedroom, Eddie turned and caught her in the act. Without slowing down, he raised the mug to his lips and sipped, heat flashing in his eyes.

Interview:

Hi and thank you for inviting me to stop by your site on the blog tour for FOREVER HERS, the 5th FITZGERALD book.

1.    Where did you get the idea for the novel?

Eddie appears in almost all the previous Fitzgerald books, so I knew him pretty well. Eddie is a protector. He lives and breathes his job, hates authority, so he bends rules to achieve his goal. In other words, he’s the best cop you want watching your back. Finding a mate for him was fun.

2.    Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?

Katrina Whittaker, the Aussie lady who beta-reads for me and runs my Facebook fan page, comes up with my titles. She’s really good. She came up with a list and I chose one.

3.    Which came first, the title or the novel?

I always finish the book first before naming it.

4.    Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?

Oh my, I have so many of those. The best was getting my first letter from a book club reading my book (YA).

5.    What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?

I am reading Kelly Hashway’s Touch of Death. The last book was an old favorite, Dance with the Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon

6.    What was your first book that you ever wrote (very first one you wrote, not published)?

A picture book about Goldilocks. More like Goldilocks before she met the three bears. My kids loved it

7.    What is your writing process?

I spend weeks thinking about my characters and the plot. When the story gels in my head, I sit and write…write…and write. Does that make me a panster? I don’t think so. But I’m not what you call a traditional plotter either. Somehow, once the story gels in my head and I start to write, it just unfolds. I have an amazing way of memorizing my characters’ traits. I have 4 WHIPs brewing in my head right now and I can tell you the backgrounds of all the major players in a snap

8.    Who are your favorite authors of all time?

Jude Deveraux, Sylvia Day, J. R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon and many more.

9.    At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?

I have never had a book signing gig, but when I autograph copies of my books to readers, I always write a note.

10. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

That I was born in Kenya

11. How do you react to a bad review?

Before they’d get me down and kill my mojo for a day or two. Now I just shrug them off. Not everyone can like the same story.

12. How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?

I took my family out to dinner.

Book Tour: The Vrykolakas Deviation by Sherri Lackey Interview & Giveaway

BLURB:

Keeva lives her life on the run, changing identities and personas. She is running from monsters she has never seen - vrykolakes, vampire creatures her father, Sandor, has told her stories about all her life. She had almost convinced herself that these monsters had all died in a volcano eruption on the island of Strongili long ago.

But when a vrykolakas named Severin kills Mandy, her best friend, she discovers the vrykolakes are alive and well. Keeva knows about Severin from her father’s stories, and her first impulse is to kill him and rid the world of the evil vrykolakas. She feels drawn to him however, and takes him prisoner. She hopes to better understand the vrykolakes and perhaps better understand herself. She is over two thousand years old. She doesn't know who or what she is, but she wants to find out. In order to do that, she has to discover her past. Severin might be the place to start looking for a connection to the past. Or, he could be the worst mistake Keeva has ever made.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
"Why? I am a vrykolakas and that is all that matters," he said harshly. "You are not a vrykolakas. You are nothing, less than nothing, daughter of Sandor. You are nothing but a freakish aberration, a mistake yet to be remedied – erased."
This conversation was not going in the direction I had hoped it would go. "And yet," I said, "here you are tied up in this room. This less than nothing aberration managed to drag your practically lifeless body back here and tie you up. That is something to think about isn't it?"
He gave me that cold smile again. "You are such a naïve little girl. How have you survived this long?"
I suddenly felt foolish. I clearly was not on top of my game here. I was failing miserably and his last words cut me deeply. I walked out of the room slamming the door behind me. I was frustrated by my failed first attempt at interrogation. On top of that, I couldn't think clearly with him around.
That night, I was restless again. At times it seemed I was in some realm of being half asleep and half awake. At one point, I thought I woke up to see Severin standing over me, looking down at me with that wolfish grin. I came more fully awake. He was not there, but his distinct odor was pervasive in my room. I got up and got a drink of water from the kitchen. I listened quietly outside his room and heard nothing.
INTERVIEW:
 1) Where did you get the idea for the novel?
I wanted to write a different kind of vampire novel and in doing research on the topic I found a vampire creature called a vrykolakas. The legend of the vrykolakas originates in Greece, specifically on the island of Santorini. They are also known by some as the bloodless vampire. They drain the life from their victims, but not by draining their blood. The legends are not highly detailed which gave me ample room to expand on the idea.
2) Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?
I came up with the title, The Vrykolakas Deviation. It was my third choice. The other two didn’t quite have the flavor that I wanted for the story. My second choice, Sandor’s Daughter, became the title of the first chapter. The title I started out with didn’t make it into the novel at all.
3) Why did you pick this genre? What do you like about it?
I chose fantasy, more specifically urban fantasy, for my novel because I like the rich resource material which is available for fantasy writers. A fantasy writer can choose to stick closely to the original myth or legend she is writing about or decide to tweak it to her own tastes. I like to tweak myths and legends to my own tastes, which is what I did with the legend of the vrykolakas.
4) Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
That’s a hard one to answer.  I think the most exciting moment is when a reader comes up to you with her face beaming, telling you how much she enjoyed reading your book, and says she can’t wait to read the next one. That has to be the most exciting moment that has happened to me.
5) What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
I am currently reading Chosen by Denise Grover Swank. It’s an urban fantasy novel series. I’ve only read about one third of the first book so far but I’m enjoying it.
6) What is your writing process?
I begin with an idea; sometimes an idea will be the offshoot of a scene that comes to mind. The idea itself is usually generated by any variety of themes I’m interested in at the moment. From that point, I do a rough outline of where I want the story go. I begin writing my rough draft and usually don’t stop to revise or edit. I simply let the story flow out in print. When the rough draft is finished, I wait a couple of weeks before revising begins. After my revisions are done to my satisfaction, I proofread and edit my manuscript. Finally, I let at least two more people read it for flow and look for any typos or grammatical mistakes I missed.
7) At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
I simply sign my name unless someone wants a note. Once, I had someone request a personal note in which I was to address her as Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars. No problem, whatever makes a reader happy! Is it ethical for me to tell people that Darth Vader asked for my autograph?
8) What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have a book and sock obsession. I look forward to winter only because I can wear boots and over-the-knee socks with my boots. It used to be purses. The top shelf of my closet is cluttered with my old purses, but now the bottom of my closet is becoming cluttered with boots of all sorts. Of course this has led to an entire wardrobe change because I have to buy skirts and leggings which match with my boots and socks. My most ostentatious pair of boots are gold colored with black details. The first time I wore them someone openly smirked at me. That didn’t stop me from wearing them again.
9) How do you react to a bad review?
So far I’ve been fortunate. The only bad review I’ve received was given by a woman who thinks the fantasy genre is evil. For that matter, she thinks I’m evil too.  She is entitled to her opinion and it doesn’t bother me. I’m sure I will eventually get a bad review from someone who simply does not like my characters or the plot of a novel. I think I’ll live when that happens and keep on writing for those who do enjoy my novels.
10) How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I went out to dinner with my husband, which is my favorite way to celebrate. I ordered fajitas and he had a steak.
Book Description:
A fallen angel with a mission and a medical examiner who's lost her faith are fighting for their souls in a glittering, near-future Manhattan...
Blind faith is for fools. That's what Dr. Morgan Sterling believes. And she's going to prove it by curing the zombie plague ravaging her city's slums. She's certain it's not a sign of the End of Days, but a nasty disease—until an angel appears in her morgue in a flash of glory.
Luniel is not just a fallen angel. He's a powerful warrior sworn to fight evil in hopes of a chance at redemption. He's after the demon princes who are stealing the seven vials of holy wrath which, when perverted, will unleash eternal hell on earth.
To stop the plague, Luniel needs Morgan's help, and her faith. But Morgan believes science is their salvation. If the zombie plague is a demonic curse—and if Luniel is true—he’ll have to prove it. Even if he loses his heart to true love or his soul to Hell...
Excerpt:
Today, of all days. It was Thursday. The world couldn’t end on a Thursday.
Luniel, the fallen angel, crouched on the shore of Liberty Island in a hot August sunset with blood lapping at his feet. It licked the rocks beneath his boots, clotting. All the way across the bay, to the firelit Brooklyn shore and the gleaming blue arcs of the Narrows Bridge, what used to be water gleamed sick and scarlet.
The angel sniffed the air, and tasted copper. A dead fish bobbed belly-up, pale white flesh and fins. He poked the warm liquid with his finger, and licked. Yeah. Definitely blood. And human. There were seaweeds and algae that sported the same fleshy color. But Luniel had tasted enough blood in his three thousand years to know this wasn’t algae.
He straightened. No breeze flicked his long black hair back. In his human guise, he had no wings. He scanned the distant shore with sharp blue eyes, further than any human could see, and his nose twitched. Hunting. For something. Anything. A trick. A college prank. A fish slaughterhouse. Overflow from some industrial accident, one of the factories along the built-up Jersey waterfront spilling toxic chemicals.
Not a sign of the Apocalypse. Not God’s wrath.
Across the bloody bay, Babylon’s glittering towers razored the red sky, the decadent sprawl of skyscrapers and spires they once called Manhattan. The sunset flashed on steel and mirrored windows, glaring in competition with neon lights and rainbow columns of virtual advertising. Even from here, Lune’s preternatural ears detected buzzing electrics, the faint digital beep of comms towers, snatches of conversations, and in his magical angelsight, the city glowed, green with the living, pulsing energy of human souls.
Helicopters lasered their searchlights through smoke and heat haze, sweeping over burned-out housing projects and shining condominiums. Traffic noise hummed, the groaning subway, horns and engines and wailing sirens, police and fire and the ever-more-urgent ambulances. At the height of summer, plague had stolen into the Empire State like a homicidal houseguest, more frightening than California dengue and deadlier than arctic flu, and people were afraid.
But terror happened in Babylon, the world’s richest, rottenest city of sin. You only had to look at the shining glass spire piercing the sky, one hundred and ten stories high, built back in wiser days where a pair of ill-fated twin towers once stood. The world had turned ever more rapidly to shit since then, but Luniel still remembered that day well. That day, angels dived for earth, fiery wings flashing, but it was too late. Even the fallen, like Lune, were powerless. The people screamed and died and thought the world was ending.
Horrific? Yeah. But the monkeys had no idea what they were in for.
What the end of the world would really be like.
Luniel shivered. This wasn’t over yet. It couldn’t be.
He dug into his jeans pocket for his phone, and speed-dialed. Trendy SIM implants in your ears were all very well for humans, but fast-healing angelflesh rejected biotech. The irony was pleasing and bitter. “Come on, Ithiel,” he muttered. “Answer your rotted phone.”
Ithiel was still on heaven’s A-list, but he and Lune stayed in contact. If anything was going down, Ith would know. But voicemail kicked in, his brother’s laid-back laughter: I’m busy. Leave a message. If I give a shit, I’ll call back.
Luniel swore—even after centuries, defiance felt good—and waited for the beep. “Party never stops upstairs, huh. Call me, asshole,” he said, and ended the call.
A week. Ithiel hadn’t answered for a week. And now this.
It could be stupid luck. Coincidence. Random events colliding like flotsam.
But after two millennia spent dealing out heaven’s wrath, and going on another one walking the earth and seeing it all from the other side, Luniel was wearily certain that what goes around, comes around to kick you in the balls.
Coincidence was bullshit. Nothing was random. Everything happened for a reason, and fate was one dastardly, despicable motherfucker you just couldn’t avoid.
But inexorably—inexplicably—the blood lapping at his feet made him angry.
Defiantly, recklessly, sinfully angry.
Interview:
Thanks for having me – I'm stoked to be here!
  1. Where did you get the idea for the novel?
I was thinking about the end of the world (as you do) and I thought, what if someone stole the Seven Signs of the Apocalypse? Wouldn't that be a great McGuffin for a paranormal romance series? You could have a posse of sexy warrior angels tasked with getting the Signs back, only there's this Demon King who wants to spring Satan from the pit, see, and the boss archangel has his own agenda, and…
Boom! Plot bunny roadkill. I wrote half the book in two weeks.
  1. Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?
Me! I didn't have to change this one. Mostly, I'm rubbish at titles. But REVELATION is snappy and evocative, and we liked that it wasn't blood something or darkness something or something shadow, like a lot of paranormals. And then the people at Berkley came up with this crazy cover art! I adore this cover. Dark, dangerous, a bit twisted, definitely over-the-top – just like the story!
  1. Which came first, the title or the novel?
It's always the story first for me. Titles are to be agonized over when the fun part's done. I'd rather write a synopsis than make up a title. For a writer, that's saying something…
  1. Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
In the writing world? Award nominations, for sure. It's a real buzz to know that someone out there has read and loved my books.
  1. What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
A western, one of the books I’m judging for the RITA. So I can't mention the title. But it's good so far! Apart from that, I just finished THE FALLEN BLADE by John Courtenay Grimwood, a cool historical fantasy, and I'm starting LEGEND BEYOND THE STARS, a sci-fi romance by an author who lives near me in Australia, SE Gilchrist.
  1. What was your first book that you ever wrote (very first one you wrote, not published)?
It was this mad fantasy tale about a nun who falls for a psychopathic killer. It had swords and flintlock pistols and posses of evil knights with magic spells. The hero died of the plague at the end. He deserved it, too.
  1. What is your writing process?
I'm a plotter, so I spend loads of time arranging the story just so before I start writing. It's a time-sucker, sure, but it means I don't have to do much big-picture editing when I’m finished.
  1. Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Oh, that's a hard one. It's hard to pick out just a few! I'm yet to read a Stephen King that I didn't like in some way. I love Joe Abercrombie's fantasy books. In paranormal romance, I like Pamela Palmer, and JR Ward's Fallen Angels series.
  1. At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
I try to write something extra. But when you're signing piles of books it's difficult to keep it up! So I generally fall back on something lame, like 'happy reading' or 'hope you enjoy!'. If you get something other than that, you'll know I was inspired that day. (I'll be at RWA Nationals this year if you want to try your luck…)
  1. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
You terrify me. All of you. I may seem relaxed and sociable, but inside I'm a shivering wreck. Except on the internet, where I engage with reckless abandon.
  1. How do you react to a bad review?
Indiscriminate homicide. LOL no, really, I just go away and think about something else. I try not to read reviews, to be honest, unless I already know what they're going to say. The bad ones creep up on you. People have the right to say what they like, but it does hurt. So I prefer to keep away.
  1. How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
You know, I don't remember? Probably went out to dinner. I recall I was playing a music theatre show that night, in the orchestra pit (yeah, my geekdom knows no bounds) and I sat there wearing this stupid grin on my face for the whole of South Pacific. Probably played dozens of wrong notes!
