Another Shot At Love
Book 1, What’s Love??? series
By: Niecey Roy
New Adult Romantic Comedy / Contemporary Romantic Comedy
Released October 21, 2013

~~ Blurb ~~
Imogen Gorecki has a problem—her twin sister just got engaged, and guess who’s the best man? That’s right, her scum-of-an-ex-boyfriend whom she caught cheating with a bottle-blonde, with fake breasts and a stripper’s flexibility. There’s a disturbing possibility her eyes will never recover.

Gen needs a date for the engagement party, but finding Mr. Perfect in a time crunch is proving impossible. Just when she’s about to give up, she face-plants into the crotch of the sexiest guy she’s ever met.

Matt Sesnick is everything Gen wants in a man —except he’s not interested in a relationship. Can she convince Matt to take another shot at love, or will Gen’s pregnant, hormonal older sister, her bridezilla twin, and all of her past Mr. Wrongs get in the way of their happily-ever-after?

~~  Excerpt ~~
“You really should change that light bulb,” Matt said, glancing around us.
“I know.” I pushed aside my wallet to dig to the bottom of my oversized purse. “I kind of take for granted that this is supposed to be a safe neighborhood.”
“Until an alien abducts you off your poorly lit porch.”
“Very funny.” I glanced up from my purse with a smile. “But really, it’s late. You could have been home by now.”
“Gen, I’m glad to walk you to your door. I would have worried about you if I hadn’t.”
I considered him as we stood there on my porch, the light flickering above us. I didn’t want him to leave, but I didn’t know how to ask him to stay. Maybe I could ask him in for a drink, though I’d already had enough.
But I have those cupcakes…
Yeah. I could offer him cupcakes. They weren’t his favorite, chocolate with sprinkles, but yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting had to be a close second, right? Hadn’t he said a cupcake will fix everything?
“I’m really glad we went out tonight.” His voice made me jump and I dropped the keys. We both bent to pick them up at the same time and bumped foreheads.
“Sorry,” he said.
“It’s okay, I’m fine.” I clasped my forehead and laughed. Probably, I sounded hysterical. Like a rabid hyena. I couldn’t even look him in the eye when I took the keys from him. “Thanks for inviting me. I had a lot of fun tonight.”
“Me too,” he said.
I put the key into the lock, turning it slowly as I struggled with what to do about him and my out of control libido. Unlocking my door hadn’t given me enough time to figure things out, though, so I tried to prolong sliding the patio door open. That didn’t take long either, and I hesitated in the doorway, still unsure. I opened my mouth to ask him in, but nothing came out. So I stepped backward through the doorway, my gaze glued to his. After a moment, he followed me inside, part of his face lost in shadows.
Time stood still. My tongue darted out to lick my lips, and I lifted up onto my toes as he lowered his head to meet me halfway. The smell of his cologne surrounded me and my eyes drifted shut. He grasped me loosely around my back, pulling me close, sending shivers coursing through my body. His breath caressed my skin, his lips just a whisper away from mine, and my lips parted…

~~Interview~~

1. Where did you get the idea for the novel?
I was actually inspired by the concept of the novel by working in an insurance company very similar to Bradshaw Insurance (Gen's employer in the book). You'd be amazed at the way gossip and news travels inside a building like that, ha! Also, the sisters in this book are really similar to the relationship my sisters and I have with each other. Throw in some bad dates, a jerk-face ex, and a super hot guy, and Another Shot Of Love pretty much just flowed :)

2. Why did you pick this genre? What do you like about it?
Romantic Comedy is my favorite! I actually love watching RomCom movies (I might be considered an addict. So, when I write, it's what comes naturally to me. It's either RomCom, or the extreme opposite (emotional paranormal). I chose to write these characters younger, in their early 20s, for the New Adult genre, because that's a really fun, and confusing time to be in love. There's a lot of firsts when you're in your early twenties, and that includes heartbreak, first serious relationships. Early 20s, you're just figuring out what love is and how to deal with it. I thought Another Shot At Love fit perfectly in New Adult Romance.

3. Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
My very first fan mail :) It was an email, actually. And the reader loved the book enough to write to me. I almost fell out of my chair when I got the message. I LOVE hearing from readers. I love connecting with them on Social Media, or receiving a message. I always respond. Always. If someone has taken the time to read my books, I'm definitely going to take the time to return their messages!

4. What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
I'm currently beta reading a NA Paranormal called Part-Time Reaper by Casse NaRome. She writes YA and NA Paranormal. My addiction (besides RomCom) is paranormal.

5. What is your writing process?
I wish I had one. Mostly, I have writing habits. I CANNOT write unless I have a pair of headphones or earbuds in, whether I'm listening to music or not! Weird, I know! I think it takes me away from the present... That's my only explanation for its weirdness. Ha! Also, I carry a notebook with me EVERYWHERE. It's one of those little ringed notebooks with one pocket separator. It fits inside my purse. I pull it out everywhere I can't have my iPad or laptop open. I also like to plot out a scene in my notebook before I write it. Gives me a good foundation and idea of where I'm going and the words flow better.

6. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Hm. Well, I sing my face off everywhere I go:  in the car, in the shower, getting ready for work, cooking, walking around, cleaning... I am pretty sure my husband gets tired of it, but I'm sure I don't care. ha! It's just who I am. And now, my kids do it, too.

7. How do you react to a bad review?
I've learned that in the professional blogging world, bloggers are very serious about their reviews, which means it's just as hard for them to post a "bad" review, as it is for an author to read them. And, to me, a bad review is one that really cuts down an author or is very crass. I've yet to read a review like this in the blogger community. I so appreciate the time people to take to write reviews. I get excited with each new one that goes up up!

~~ About the Author ~~
Niecey Roy knew she wanted to be a writer from a very young age, but her moment of enlightenment came after watching the movie You’ve Got Mail. It was then she realized her place in life, and happily parked her butt on writing romance. Her dream was to create sexy vixens, hunky, half-naked heroes, and above all, romance; lots and lots of butterflies in the belly, breathless first kisses and happily-ever-afters.

Most days she can be found at home at a cluttered desk, pounding her tired little fingers away on a keyboard with nothing but black pepper flavored sunflower seeds and Visine as her weapons for mass-romance-novel-creation. When her fingers need a break, you’ll find her at a table with friends, drinking a few martinis and showing off a new pair of (sometimes ridiculous) high heels. She’s usually the loudest at the table and most often the one snorting with laughter.

Niecey is the author of Fender Bender Blues, a contemporary romantic comedy published by The Wild Rose Press. Her new novel to be released November 2013, Another Shot At Love, is the first novel in the What’s Love??? series.

Book Tour: Visions of Fire & Ice by Teresa D'Amario Interview & Giveaway

BLURB:
Trapped on a planet not their own, the Petiri spend their lives hiding the natural gifts that set them apart from the world.  They live long and unfulfilled lives, unable to find their soul mates on this backward planet known as Earth.  That is until the night Ramose comes face to face with Tamara, a woman whose gifts rival his own.  Determined to find why this human is in possession of an ancient magical Petiri relic, he arranges a meeting.

But Tamara, embittered from past events, is wary despite lifelong dreams of Ramose and a sure knowledge he is her soul mate.  Before long the couple find themselves ensnared in a battle that has raged for millennia in Egypt’s desert.  Set, Egyptian God of Chaos, is determined to take his just due: the throne of Osiris.

The only way to stop him is for Ramose to put his trust in Tamara, but first must gain the same from her.  The ensuing sensual relationship is filled with romance, lust and love.  Their relationship is tested by an unnatural evil. Will her powers over fire, combined with his ice be enough to win the day?  Or will the ancient gods and goddesses of Egypt destroy more than just their love?

EXCERPT:
Tamara pulled out the costume with a grin. It was red. Fire red. Small bits of orange peeked beneath the folds, enhancing the image. This would be perfect for her youngest sister who always teased her about the fire she herself wielded. She held the costume before her, judging its size. A spark of energy caught her attention, and she raised her eyes to Ramose. He was moving toward her, his muscles tight, his face pale in the darkened light. But his eyes, they burned with unfettered need.

Tamara swallowed. Hard. Never in her life had she expected to see any man, much less Ramose, look at her the way he did now. What had she done to trigger such a response? Maybe he thought shopping was sexy. Hell, it didn’t matter. He had the look of a man ready to cross to the next level in their relationship. No, not the next level. He looked ready to leap all the way past and into a new relationship. His eyes were filled with need, but other emotions glimmered beneath the surface. Possession. Relief. Stark, irreversible hunger.

Before she could utter a word, he was there, pulling the dress from her fingers, handing it to the shopkeeper still standing beside her.

He spoke in rapid Arabic, handing the man cash. The store owner protested loudly, probably hoping for a good bartering session.

Ramose totally ignored him, his focus glued only on her. Never had he seemed so tall. Powerful. And even imposing. Tamara stepped back. Just moments before, he’d stood across the room, silent, watching. Now his scent whispered over her, dark and sensuous. Her blood rushed through her veins, heating her body in response. She bit her lip at the sudden onslaught of emotions and need building inside her. Inside, her heart fluttered in panic, while the rest of her body yearned for him. She was part rabbit, part tigress. She was terrified. She was starved.

“I can….” She could what? Pay for it herself?

Ramose leaned forward, his lips brushing against her ears, his breath feathering across her neck.

“Nanik,” he whispered fiercely.

Mine, her mind translated.

Tamara’s heartbeat spiked, and her knees weakened. She grabbed the clothing rack and struggled to breath, yet it was impossible. Not with him so close. So hungry. Did he suddenly recognize her as his soul mate? Did he have that skill as well? She tipped her face to meet his gaze. Heat coiled low in her belly. His scent stripped her of her desire for control. The fear fluttered inside her, yet she ached for more, to feel his lips against her flesh.

The hard lines of his jaw, shadowed by the late afternoon beard, combined with the power surging from his being, gave him the look of a warrior of old. Demanding. Powerful. And sexy as hell.

Her body moved of its own accord, leaning forward, blending his heat with her own. Muscles inside her softened, melting, while others drew taut, hungry for his touch. Her lashes fluttered, her eyes heavy, her mind and body drugged by this man’s desire.

“Ramose—”

But he wanted none of her words. His eyes silenced her, as though he were afraid she’d reject him. Long, warm fingers closed over hers. It was the first touch of what she hoped was soon to be more. The pulse in her throat beat a rapid staccato message. Need. Fear. She wasn’t even sure which held more power.

When the shopkeeper returned, Ramose held out his hand, not even looking at the man. His fingers closed around the plastic bag, and, without a word, he turned, escorting her out the door.

Once outside, they moved past the small shop, pressed inward by the throngs of people surrounding them. He didn’t seem to care. He stopped, right in the middle of crowd, tugging her hand until she turned to face him. His eyes raked over her, searching. With calloused fingers, he brushed away the wisp of hair now falling in her face. The heat from his fingers burned her flesh, regardless of his gift of ice.

“Kha-Ib.”

The word was so soft, so worshipful, she had to strain to hear it. Tamara shook her head. “What, Ramose, what is it?”

“Nanik,” he whispered again, his gaze softening, offering her a smile of wonder.

Oblivious to the crowd surrounding them, Tamara’s knees wobbled. She should be running, racing to her hotel to block away the world. This was too fast. Too dangerous. And, yet, the sudden possessiveness in his response only built the hunger inside her. Her gaze moved to his lips.

She wanted to feel him. Against her mouth. Hungry. God, what was wrong with her? His arm hooked about her waist, and, as his head lowered, she tipped her face to meet him. Wanting. Breathless.

His gaze held hers, even as his face inched closer.

When at long last their lips met, her heart, the one she was sure had quit beating, exploded in her chest, pounding as though to crack her ribs. The exquisite heat of his lips burned against hers. Oh, God. Please. Please what?

He groaned when she wrapped her arms about his neck, drawing even closer to him. He swept his tongue over her lips. She needed no further encouragement. For the first time in her life, she didn’t hesitate when a man touched her. She opened. And, when their tongues met, it was divine.

The inside of his mouth was hot and hungry, his taste an explosion of wild masculine heat, and, yet, he swept in slowly, as though in wonder, tasting her. The chill of his mouth drew her, cooling the overwhelming heat burning inside her. The combination of need and gentleness sent a shudder of hunger through her body, and she wanted more, needed to crawl even closer.

INTERVIEW:
Is your life anything like it was two years ago?
Actually it’s pretty similar to 2 years ago, only cuz I live in my own little fantasy worlds, and meet really fascinating heroes and heroines!

What do you think you’re really bad at?
I’m really BAD with anything that relates to mechanics.  It’s humiliating how bad I am at such things.

Have you ever had an imaginary friend?
Not that I remember, but I did have a doll I swore was alive once.  She was as big as I was (I was five), and we shared clothes.  I don’t remember her name, though.  She was always getting her clothes dirty though.  My mom swore I’d swap clothes with her and claim she did it, but I really think it was her.

Do you have any phobias?
Yes, a certain bug that I can’t even say the name of without shuddering.  They are said to be the only thing to survive a nuclear blast!

Ever broken any bones?
Well, I apparently fractured both shins and one ankle in Basic Training in the Air Force, and yet still managed to pass the physical testing.  And I’ve broken several toes (or is that, broken the same toes several times?)  I’m a total klutz and hate to wear shoes.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Born in Atlanta, the daughter of an Army Soldier during the early stages of the Viet Nam war, I spent my childhood traveling from state to state, finally ending up overseas in Germany where I graduated high school six months early.

My writing career however began as a young Airman in the Air Force, writing monthly articles for the weekly base paper.  The articles ranged from climatological data to full center fold articles on the destructive forces of hurricanes.  As I increased in rank, my writing changed to more technological instruction, including such works as  WSR-88D Doppler Radar Data Interpretation Guide for North Carolina Stations, and Station Operating Procedures.

But my early writing wasn’t limited only to the technological side.  I’ve written multiple dog training and behavior articles for canine websites such as Sonora Canine Freestyle, and also the Ask Blackjack column, a fun training column in the voice of my labrador retriever, then a young pup.

My first book, SheWolf, won 2nd place for Best First book in RWA’s PFF&P Prism awards.

I’m married to a wonderful man named Doug, who is also retired Air Force.  We live in North Carolina with our two dogs.

Interview:
#1.
I got the idea for the novel from being around women who have advanced degrees in the sciences and math (I'm not one of those women.) and wanting a protagonist who is basically a social mutant when it comes to men.

The images of the hero and heroine germinated from a memory I have of two very beautiful people I saw at a science conference years ago in Berlin. A tall gorgeous man with unruly dark hair who was wearing a leather jacket sat in the audience, and I also noticed a very beautiful young woman across the large lecture hall. I thought about how these two could meet and fall in love. Obviously, I wasn't paying much attention to the lecture.

Fast forward, years later, I'm writing Fearsome, and I remember those two people, but this time I place the young woman in New York City and she's forced to go to a small town to meet the hunky guy. It all flowed from there.

#2
The title went through several changes. As I write and my story develops, I always end up changing my title by the end of the novel. I finally based Fearsome on a conversation between two of the characters, and I thought it was fitting to the attraction they felt for one another.

#3
I decided to write in the New Adult Romance genre because I love the voices of the young, indecisive, emotionally-charged heroines and heroes. It's also a great opportunity to write about falling in love for the first time. A character may have been dating for years or have a boyfriend, but when real love hits them - I love that "wow" moment.

#4
I've been writing for many years, and the most exciting aspect was deciding to publish and then engaging with readers who love the book. I am overwhelmed with joy when readers send me a personal message, telling me how much they enjoyed Fearsome and why certain parts rang true for them. I get all misty-eyed.

#5
I am currently reading and enjoying On Dublin Street by Samantha Young.

#6
My writing process used to involve heavy plotting, sometimes 60-pages worth. No kidding. I've streamlined my process quite a bit now. I do my research up front and then build my character biographies. For Jessica, I had to study the software industry, ask my husband a lot of questions on how he does computer coding, and study the paintings and process of artist Lora Zombie. For Carson and Dylan, I pulled out research on furniture designers and hand-crafted furniture manufacturers.

Once I have visuals of characters and I've created partial histories for them, I start writing. I only bullet-list major plot points, twists, and reveals, otherwise, I write more like a "pantser." I know I'm going to have a happily-ever-after ending, but I don't know how I'm going to get there. Sometimes, as I'm writing, a new idea comes to me and that's where I start tweaking a character's back story or other feature that eventually becomes relevant to the story. There are times when a scene takes off, and I decide to take the characters in another direction for a while - that's the exciting part for me because it's almost as if the characters are leading me.

There's also the physical process of writing. When I start a new book, I have to work on the first draft every single day. That involves writing 4-8 hours per day to saturate my brain with the story, so I'm living, breathing, and sleeping with the characters talking in my head. That first draft is exciting and exhausting, and it takes me about three months. I may take a few days off here and there to do more research or organize my thoughts, but for the most part it's a marathon of writing. After that comes the revisions and heavy editing and that's where my beta readers come in and my professional editors.

So, for the first part, it's me and my solitary writing existence, ignoring my noisy family. After that, it's "all hands on deck" with beta readers, editors, and proofreaders going through my book, telling me what to change or fix. It's a lot of work.

#7
Since my book was just released, I have only signed books that I sent through the mail. And, yes, I do write a little note inside, usually thanking the reader. It's easy for me to come up with something to say because I really am happy and grateful that people want to read my novel, or they read the ebook and want a print version as a keepsake. It's quite humbling.

#8
People would be surprised to know that I've never watched a reality show. I've never seen the Bachelor, Dancing With The Stars, or The Voice, or any of the other shows I see people tweeting about. I'm always in the dark when people are dishing about most TV shows because my favorite reading time is during primetime television hours, I suppose. I do like Downton Abbey, but I purchase the UK DVDs and watch the season in one sitting.

#9
I haven't had a bad review yet, but I'm sure it's coming. Some of my favorite novels by other authors have reviews from 1-star to 5-stars, so I would be foolish to not expect the same. While it's probably not fun to get a bad review, it's part of the business and you have to take it in stride. Of course, I'm full of hooey, because writers by nature are rather emotional, so they don't take much in stride. I suspect many writers use some amount of discipline and try not to read bad reviews if they've been forewarned. If I had a sweet tooth, I'd probably eat a box of Ding Dongs after reading a bad review.

#10
I don't think I've officially celebrated yet. I've been too busy talking to readers, authors, and attending conferences, so I haven't had a champagne toast, or even an apple juice toast with my husband or anyone for that matter. Thanks for reminding me. I really should celebrate the publication of Fearsome before I move on completely to my next novel.
