Blog Tour: The Donor by Nikki Rae Giveaway

Synopsis:

Casey may have not known what was in store for her when she met Jonah Black on MyTrueMatch.com, but now that she’s with him, life has become even more unexpected. She's discovered someone else in the picture and now she cannot figure out how she fits into the puzzle.
Convinced that he doesn’t need her, Casey is torn between giving up and doing whatever it takes to help her family. But Jonah, it turns out, needs her more than she knows.
Time is something neither of them have.
Can they hold each other together as the clock runs out?

Synopses for the other parts:

The Donor (Part One)
Casey Williams and her family are poor. Her parents work non-stop and so does she, just so they can keep the trailer roof from leaking.
They’re getting by fine enough when the headaches start. Then there’s the nosebleeds. And the inevitable doctor’s bills.
Fortunately for Casey, there’s MyTrueMatch.com: an exclusive, quick, and almost easy way to pay it all back before her parents even have to know.
All she has to do is give a man she’s never met whatever he wants from her body.
Inside or out.

The Donor (Part Two)

When Casey joined MYTrueMatch.com, she never imagined she would meet a man who not only helps her pay the bills, but has been nothing but a gentleman.
As the nose bleeds make way for worse symptoms, Casey can’t help the feelings she has for Jonah, despite how he may never return them. And he’s been keeping things from her. Big things. How does he make his money, and who is that girl in the picture?
With the clock ticking, can she find the answers she’s looking for?

Guest Post: Sun Damage by Nikki Rae Giveaway

Blurb:
Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn't be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn't know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

How Sophie Was Born by Nikki Rae:
Sophie came to me on what I thought would be one of the worst experiences of my young adult life.
I was fifteen and my family and  I went on vacation to Aruba (which I was completely against from the beginning). I went swimming the first day we were there, and I promptly got sun poisoning three hours later.
I was stuck for the rest of the week in excruciating pain, in a hotel room where there were three channels in French and a notebook. I slept a lot, and between the haze of sleep and aloe vera, Sophie’s story came to me.
Call it delirium or whatever, but she just appeared, fully formed. She had magenta hair and a nose ring. She had pale skin and green eyes. She was wearing a tan trench coat when I first saw her, and I didn’t know why.
She was allergic to the sun, and the type of thing I was experiencing happened to her a lot, so she had to cover up her body when she went outside.
As time went on, I also saw that she had a lot of tattoos and a lot of scars. I knew that she was incredibly closed off, and at that time, I couldn’t figure out why. But I found out other things. Like how much she loved playing piano and all about her family.
I wrote everything down. And the more I wrote, the more I found out about her.
I discovered why Sophie was so broken and it was up to me to figure out how she could be put back together.
The best thing about Sophie is how instantly I fell in love with her and her story. Our relationship was easy, and I found myself waking up early and going to bed late just so I could spend more time with her, writing her story.
The most frustrating thing about her was that because she was so closed off, it was really hard to make her get over everything that happened to her. When I created Myles for her, I knew they were meant to be together. He was calm and patient and didn’t judge her, and that’s what she needed. But it was extremely hard to get her to do anything with him, even just driving in a car with him was hard in the beginning.
Then came more rewards for me. Because every time I did see her open up with Myles, I saw her grow, and that was something I always wanted for Sophie.
Now that I’ve finished her story and I know how it ends, I can’t say I could have seen it going any other way. Her life ends up in a place that neither of us were expecting, but I think we’re both happy, which is all I could really ask for.

Book Tour: Sun Poisoned by Nikki Rae Interview

Synopsis:
Sophie’s life has changed. She’s moved to New York, she’s playing music for new people, and she’s making new friends. Then there’s Myles, and the fact that he is now her boyfriend—and everyone knows it. There are a lot of new things to take in, but Sophie has no problem adjusting.

She’s not exactly normal, living in a half-human, half-vampire world, but she’s finally, truly happy. But some parts of Sophie and Myles’ old life still hide in the dark, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.

Sophie’s having nightmares again, but they aren’t about her; Myles is hiding something that she’s not sure she wants to know.

And one lie will change everything.

No matter how hard she tries to cover up the marks her monsters have left behind, they never truly go away, and Myles’ monsters are no different.
Once again, Sophie’s caught between life and death, but this time, only she can save herself.

Interview:
1. Where did you get the idea for the novel?
Once I had the idea for the first book, the second one slowly started forming. Sunshine came to me after I took a trip to Aruba with my family when I was in high school. I got horrible sun poisoning the first day, and ideas for the book just started trickling in. For the second book, I wanted to see what would happen if the best and worst possible things happened to the main character. It was a roller-coaster for sure.

2. Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?
Sunshine was always Sunshine, but Sun Poisoned took some thinking. During the course of the first book, we see the main character, Sophie, go from a scared, closed off person to someone who grows to trust Myles. In Sun Poisoned, Sophie is continuing this transformation (with a few paranormal wrenches thrown in, of course). But are lies told, lines crossed, and suddenly, everything she thinks was alright isn’t. As I was writing, I got the sense that poison was starting to seep into every aspect of her life, so that’s how I came up with the title.
3. Why did you pick this genre? What do you like about it?
I love the paranormal genre. I feel like you can have a great mix of folklore and creativity. Writing for me is ultimately about what it means to be human, and the paranormal genre tells us that in ways other genres don’t/can’t.
I’ve also had an almost unhealthy obsession with vampires since I was very, very young. It was only a matter of time before I put my own twist on them. : )

4. Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?

Wow. It’s ALL been exciting. People reading my book, asking me questions, and saying that they like my writing.  I’ve met some nice people, made friends, and learned a TON. Recently, I was asked to go back to the community college I graduated from to speak about self-publishing. Sometimes I have to take a step back to look at all of this to believe it’s real. It’s been truly, truly amazing.
5. What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
Right now I’m reading a book called “Drowning Instinct” by Ilsa J. Bick, and the book I read before that was The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Steig Larson) graphic novel.
6. What is your writing process?
I basically think a lot at first. I gather ideas, write them down, and just let them hang out with me for a while before I start writing a novel. Usually, I like to wait until I have a good idea of who the characters are. Once I have them, I set them loose and let them do their thing, which mostly works, but sometimes they get a little carried away.
7. At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
I’ve never actually had a book signing (YET!). I have a thing called Authorgraph, where people can send me a request and I can sign their e-books with my smart phone, and a few people at school have asked me to sign things for them. I’m just honest when I write a message and I always write a note along with my signature. It’s more personal that way!
8. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m extremely shy! And I guess if we’re going off of what I write, which gets pretty dark at times, people may be surprised to know that I’m generally a happy person. I just like writing about not-so-happy things.
9. How do you react to a bad review?
When I got my first bad review, of course I was a little upset. It’s human nature. But I don’t expect everyone to like what I do. I don’t like everything other people like, either. As long as the reviewer isn’t particularly nasty when they say they didn’t like/get my book, it’s all good. : )
10. How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
Haha. I think I sat around and ate a king sized bag of candy with some friends.

Sunshine by Nikki Rae Review

Blurb:

18 year old Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. Sure, she’s not exactly happy, but happiness is nothing compared to being like everyone else. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun. She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything. Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. When accident after accident keeps happening to Sophie, she can’t help noticing that he’s everywhere. That he knows too much. That she’s remembering too much.

It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that despite how much she doesn’t want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old.

She almost forgot about that part.

But Sophie has no plans to ruin the normal life she has created for herself. She can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if word has gotten around to the wrong vampire about Sophie and Myles, even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive.

Review:

I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. First is that I haven't read many book like it. Yes, it does have vampires. But it has so many real life problems and great characters that it all seems like it is real, even the vampires. At first, I thought that Sophie was just over reacting and pushing people away. But the more I read, the more learned that she has been through a lot. Being allergic to the sun is a lot to deal with. Then add her mom and ex-boyfriend and annoying bullies, it starts to add up. I liked that there were things/problems we could relate to, like bullies and parents and then there were things that we couldn't relate to. I felt like it made me open my eyes to other people and their problems. Just because someone isn't the most friendly and welcoming person doesn't mean that they are rude and mean, they just have stuff going on in their lives.
I loved how much Sophie opened up to the readers and to Myles. I loved watch Myles slowly break through her walls and get her to love him! I really enjoy Jade, her brother, and her stepdad. They both were so great and supporting of Sophie.
One last great thing was the twists throughout the book. I was not expecting what happened to happen!
Overall, I think it's a great read!
4.5/5 Stars.
