EXCERPT:
She turned to run but he was on top of her, pinning
her to the ground. She held her breath too frightened to breathe. With the
moonlight behind him, his face was in shadow. He sniffed her then ran the tip
of his tongue down her cheek to her neck. Clare swallowed as she struggled to
breathe. Her heart beat so fast she could feel it through her chest. If he was
going to bite her, then maybe this drunken illusion would be over. He didn't
bite her. She could feel his fangs as he ran them up and down her neck. Where
they touched, her skin tingled. He licked the blood away and the pain eased
where her skin had been pierced by the spear. The calming thoughts of before
were returning. She should be fighting him but it was the furthest thing from
her mind. He was turning her on and she could feel the ache between her legs as
his tongue swirled on her neck.
"Go ahead, do what you have to do. Maybe it
will bring reality back."
He didn't bite her. Instead he trailed kisses from
her neck to her lips. She should push him away but she opened to him. His cool
tongue probing. He tasted sweet. Clare had never thought herself into erotic
fantasy, but she felt an irresistible attraction to this man she was finding
hard to control. Her tongue entered his mouth searching for his fangs. They
scratched her tongue and she heard him groan as a sweet taste entered her
mouth. It was at that moment her world became dark.
INTERVIEW:
- Where did you get the idea for the novel? I was studying a course at university called Reading and
Writing the Past. We had to read a book by Sarah Dunant called The Birth
of Venus. I thought it was brilliant. I was hooked from the first chapter.
There was romance, murder, political intrigue and religion and it was
based in 14th century Italy. I don’t write historical fiction
but wanted to create a world similar to medieval renaissance Italy, but
with a paranormal twist. I also had this idea about someone who read
paranormal romance and then suddenly found herself in a strange world and
how she would cope when she realized it was real.
- Your title. Who came up with
it? Did you ever change your title? World
Change was always the title for this book. It just seemed to be
self-explanatory as that was what happened. The series is called The
Earthbound Series because she is trying to get back home. Book two is
called World Apart and I am writing it at present. It is on another world
where a mysterious mist is separating everyone from the rest of their
world.
- Why did you pick this genre? What do you like about it? I chose paranormal romance because it is what I read a lot of. I love the fact that you can push your heroes into situations that are almost impossible to survive in without a bit of magic. I love that these books can take you to another place. Plus there are usually lots of hot guys. Can’t be bad.
- Since becoming a writer,
what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you? I think it was when I went up on stage last
year at the Romance Writers of Australia Conference and received my First
Sale Blue-Ribbon. It was for my novel Hidden Mortality that is also
available on Amazon. It had been a long journey and I felt proud to be
there with other authors.
- What book are you currently
reading or what was the last book you read? I
am reading the Black dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. I love her sexy
alpha men but her women are strong too which is a must for me. Outside of
that series the last book I read was an amazing book about the minds of
serial killers called Malicious Intent by Sean Mactire. I found it
fascinating and hope it will help when trying to create good antagonists
for my books. The other book was Debra Dixon Goal Motivation Conflict
which is a must for writers.
- What is your writing process?
I work, so I try and write whenever I can.
Some days I succeed more than others. I try to write a minimum of 500
words a day but sometimes when you get home from work tired, the brain
will not cooperate. Even if I don’t get to write my brain will be ticking
over plots so that the next time I sit down something is there.
- At a book signing, do you
just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff
to say? I sign my name and write a
little note as well. I try and make it personal about the book if I can.
One thing I have discovered is how differently people spell their names. I
always ask them now even if it is a common name.
- What is something people
would be surprised to know about you? I
ride a motorbike. I decided a couple of years ago that it was on my bucket
list to get my license. It took a lot of perseverance and lots of bruises,
but in the end I did get my full license. I would love to own a Triumph
Bonneville. Maybe one day.
- How do you react to a bad review? I have to say I have been lucky so far and
not received one. Sometimes people may have a little niggle about
something but on the whole have been great. Everyone is entitled to their
opinion and I know I don’t love everything I read. I think the best thing
is to move on and write more books and not worry too much.
- How did you celebrate the sale
of your first book? I had a bottle of champagne
in the fridge for ages. It was expensive and my daughter and I were going
to open it when we both passed our motorbike tests. I got mine but she
never did hers, so it sat there. We all smiled and cheered and happy
danced a lot. I still have to pinch myself when I look at Amazon.

I live in Adelaide Australia and I am a
member of Romance Writers of Australia, and the local chapter SARA (South
Australian Romance Authors). I recently completed a Bachelor of Arts in Drama,
English and Creative Writing. I have had a short story published in the RWA
Topaz Anthology Little Gems in 2010 called Sea and Vines. I have had an erotic
novella called Blood Scent published in July 2013 by Rogue Phoenix Press. I
also have a paranormal romance called Hidden Mortality published February 2014
by Soul Mate Publishing. World Change is the first book in the Earthbound
Trilogy.
