BLURB:
Jade is in Nashville on her third week of a month-long business
trip. She doesn't mind seeing a new city every week, but she's dragging after
so many without a break. When a sexy stranger wants to share her breakfast
table, she welcomes the change in scenery. The easy banter and teasing that
dances behind the eyes of the handsome voice actor have her wondering if just
this once, a one-night stand might be worth her time.
Brandon is tired of the playboy image that comes with his
cult-celebrity status. When he meets a business woman with a travel schedule as
hectic as his, she lights a spark deep inside. The problem is, he's hoping for
something long-term, and she's hesitant to start anything that will become
long-distance. With less than three days before they go their separate ways,
Brandon has to show Jade there's more to them than just an unconventional
fling.
EXCERPT:
Jade’s heart dropped into her shoes when she
realized she’d reached the front of the line. What was she supposed to say? She
shifted her weight from one foot to the other while the actors took pictures
with the person who’d been in front of her. And then it was her turn.
Brandon’s eyes grew wide when she stepped forward,
smile quickly spreading. “I didn’t know you were a fan.”
She couldn’t help returning the pleased look but
made sure to tuck away most of her giddiness. “I didn’t realize you were
famous.”
He grabbed a small poster off a nearby stack that
sported the cartoon characters she figured were him and his cohorts. He
scribbled something, holding it at an angle so the glare of the lights above
kept her from reading it.
He nodded to his left. “Who’s your friend?”
She followed his gaze to Andie, who stood at the
edge of the line, almost hopping with irritation. Jade’s smile faded to
embarrassment. “That’s who I borrowed the pass from to stand in line.”
He grabbed another print. “I’m flattered. What’s
your plan now that you’re here?”
“I hadn’t gotten that far,” she confessed.
He handed her a print and nodded at the now
wide-eyed Andie. “For your new friend.” Then he handed her the second one. “For
you. Don’t get them mixed up.”
Jade gave him one last smile. “Thanks.”
She trudged toward Andie, handing off the girl’s
pass and the signed poster without another word, and then headed upstairs. So
much for her brilliant plan to seduce the gorgeous stranger. Maybe she should
just stay in her room the rest of the night.
When she pulled out her signed print and turned it
over to read the inscription, her embarrassed heat shifted to something new.
INTERVIEW:
- Where did you get the idea for the novel?
When I
was younger, and had more disposable income, I loved to go to anime conventions
(yup, I’m that kind of geek ;-) I happened to be in Nashville, TN one year for
business and there was a convention that weekend that I extended my trip for.
The entire English voice acting cast from a popular-at-the-time show hosted a
series of panels, and one of the men just caught my attention and slid into my
fantasies. So this is kind of a “what might have happened if…” story.
- Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever
change your title?
Titles
are usually a pain for me to think up. This one just came to me. A one-night
stand that takes place in the midst of an anime convention … it just had to be
an Unconventional Fling. This is one
of the few books I’ve had where the title has always been pretty much the same.
- Why did you pick this genre? What do you like
about it?
Even
before I could admit to myself that I wrote contemporary romance, I was drawn
to it. Life is full of let downs and disappointments. Things don’t always go as
planned. But in romance, regardless of the hardship or obstacles, the couple
always gets a happily ever after. There’s something both sweet and refreshing
about that. Plus, I’m a fan of the sexy times.
- Since becoming a writer, what’s the most
exciting thing to ever happen to you?
I’ve met
so many incredible people since I’ve been actively pursuing writing. Other
authors, readers, bloggers—I’ve made so many new friends. It’s exciting to know
there are that many other people out there who I connect with, and it’s so much
fun.
- What book are you currently reading or what
was the last book you read?
I’m a big
fan of Richelle Mead’s Succubus
series, but I’d never read anything else by her. People keep recommending I
read The Vampire Academy books, and
I’ve finally given in. All I can say is, why didn’t I pick these up sooner? I’m
loving these books!
- What is your writing process?
I used to
think I could be one of those people who gets an idea and then just sits and
writes it into a full-blown story, but I’m not. I get a snippet of an idea—a
character, a plot, a setting—and I toss it around in my head like the spin
cycle on the washer until it makes enough sense to be a full-blown book. Then I
write down the major plot points and … proceed to change half of it or more as
I flesh the story out of it.
- At a book signing, do you just sign your name
or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
Being at
a book signing is one of those things I think would be absolutely awesome. I
haven’t done it yet, but I’m told I have “an executive’s signature” (which
means, I think, it’s illegible.) I’d like to think I’ll be witty, but we’ll
have to see when I get there.
- What is something people would be surprised to
know about you?
I’m
pretty open about who I am and what I enjoy, so that’s a tough one. I know my
coworkers would be surprised to learn what my penname is and what I write under
the name Allyson Lindt, lol. Hrm… I don’t use an alarm clock. I’ve always been
a morning person, so I wake up when I need to. Well, with the help of a little
coffee, that is.
- How do you react to a bad review?
Oh, I’m a big baby about bad reviews. I read them, I pout, I
spend way too much time figuring out what I could have done differently to make
that reader happy. I always try and learn something from it, but I also know
not everyone likes everything. So I eventually take what I can from the
situation, file the rest away, and go write more stories.
- How did you celebrate the sale of your first
book?
The day my first book was released, I watched Amazon like a
hawk, waiting for that magic moment when my book would have its own ranking.
That’s the closest thing I have to a real-time monitor for selling books. And I
saw that number, and I eeped, and I told just about everyone who I thought
cared, and I spend the rest of the day in a happy daze, including going out for
a celebratory dinner that night with my Sweetie.
