Book Tour: Up the Tower by J. P. Lantern Excerpt & Giveaway

BLURB:
Disaster brings everybody together. A cloned corporate assassin; a boy genius and his new robot; a tech-modified gangster with nothing to lose; a beautiful, damaged woman and her unbalanced stalker—these folks couldn't be more different, but somehow they must work together to save their own skin. Stranded in the epicenter of a monumental earthquake in the dystopian slum, Junktown, there is only one way to survive. These unlikely teammates must go...UP THE TOWER.

EXCERPT:
Before anything else—before the riot, before the flood, before the gap and the deaths and the fires and the pain—before all of that, Ana just wanted to get the hell out of Junktown.

But she was stuck there with Raj, and Raj had all the bodyguards, so she couldn't very well leave on her own. Walk into Junktown without any protection? No, thank you. She had a knife on her, but that was hardly enough. The knife fit neatly in a small, luxury Cardion-brand sheath at her side.

The rest of her outfit was direct out from a fashion magazine. She wore tight black Cardion slacks, her patent leather Aushwere ankle boots sexy and stylish and perfect for inner-city walking. Her dark blue blouse was Cardion again (there had been a sale); already she had noticed the way Raj had been hugging his eyes to how it cupped and clung to her body. He would have been looking a bit more, perhaps, but she wore her favorite Kadaya Sarin-brand leather jacket, allowing her a bit of modesty with the long sleeves and tight collar, despite the thinness of the material. She was a woman dressed to impress, but also was no whore—she had her man. He liked her dressed attractive, but not like some slut. Ana knew what he wanted, because that was her entire life, as she saw it, from now on.

They were inside the ground floor of a tall building. Cleanbots rushed around them, sweeping up dust, guided along by retrofitted eyebots that spied out areas of dust and disrepair.

“Here's where we'll have the lobby,” said Raj, opening his hands out wide to the open space.

Ana had presence of mind to hold her tongue.

What she wanted to say was, “Really, dear? Here in the first possible place that someone could enter from the street? That's where you'll have the lobby? That's so inventive. You're so smart.”

What did she say was, “Oh! It will look beautiful, I'm sure.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
J.P. Lantern lives in the Midwestern US, though his heart and probably some essential parts of his liver and pancreas and whatnot live metaphorically in Texas. He writes speculative science fiction short stories, novellas, and novels which he has deemed "rugged," though he would also be fine with "roughhewn" because that is a terrific and wonderfully apt word.
Full of adventure and discovery, these stories examine complex people in situations fraught with conflict as they search for truth in increasingly violent and complicated worlds.

To rescue her was to rescue his own soul.

On a cold Parisian night, Vicomte Aleksender de Lefèvre forges an everlasting bond with a broken girl during her darkest hour, rescuing her from a life of abuse and misery. Tormented by his own demons, he finds his first bit of solace in sheltering little Sofia Rose.

But when Aleksender is drawn away by the Franco-Prussian war, the seasons pass. And in that long year, Sofia matures into a stunning young woman—a dancer with an understanding of devotion and redemption far surpassing her age.

Alongside his closest friend, Aleksender returns home to find that “home” is gone, replaced by revolution, bloodshed, betrayal—and a love always out of reach. Scarred inside and out, he’s thrust into a world of sensuality and violence—a world in which all his hours have now grown dark, and where only Sofia might bring an end to the winter in his heart.

Inspired by the 1871 Paris Commune, The Frost of Springtime is a poignant tale of revolution, redemption, and the healing power of love.

EXCERPT

Bête Noire’s walls shook as a gust of wind moaned in the distance. Soft and shameful sobs accompanied the ambiance with haunting precision. The child sank to the crutch of her knees—defeated, starved for food and warmth—as if she might escape the world in that way.
Moved by her humiliation far more than he dared admit, the dark stranger removed his bowler hat and crouched to her level. He replaced the hat after running an unsteady hand through his hairline. His chest lurched as the child adjusted the torn tatters of her clothing. Swishing off his frock coat, he draped the material over her body like it was a security blanket.

She grasped the wool with her good hand, plummeted onto her bottom, and pulled both legs against her chest. Her face sank from eye-line as she hid below a fortress of upright knees. Tiny and perfectly helpless, the abundance of thick folds seemed to devour her whole.

“Cold night,” he whispered.

“Thank you, m-monsieur.”

The man softened at the tragic sight that lay before him; icicles, which had too long clung to his chest, deftly thawed and melted away. He felt an incredible pain, a sincere compassion and aching sympathy, which he’d believed he no longer possessed. Despite his better judgment and a lifetime of indifference, his heart broke.

Damnation. He longed to turn his cheek in apathy and disgust. He yearned to feel numb to the girl’s pain and loneliness. He wanted to hate the child—to despise the child—for having invaded his sole sliver of peace: darkness.

Tucked within a foreign part of his heart, only emptiness had ever existed. A terrible and twisted emptiness. And for seventeen of his twenty-seven years, he’d filled that internal void with darkness.

Book Tour: Prophecy Revealed by Ron Hartman Guest Post & Giveaway

BLURB:
Daniel Marten crossed the Burning Sea and convinced himself that he is the Prophesied One.  But what does that mean?  In this second installment of the Prophecy Chronicles trilogy, Daniel forges new alliances in his bid to save Naphthali from the Emperor.  He meets the Tene’breon, a magical race that has evolved to use the Weave as effortlessly as he breathes air.  The leaders of this race recognize him for what he is…but they also see something more.

Naphthali has been dramatically altered by the rule of a new governor, a man whose power is tied to Daniel in a horrifying way.    How far will Daniel go to save Naphthali?  And what is the secret that binds his destiny with his new allies?  Only time will tell in The Prophecy Chronicles: Prophecy Revealed.

GUEST POST:

Character Creation
By Ron Hartman

Where does a good character come from?  And what is a good character, for that matter?  Obviously you’d want someone compelling, someone that has their own story.  You don’t want every character to only be there to further the story you’re trying to tell.  If you do, it ends up all sounding like one character with many voices, rather than the concrete individuals you’re actually creating.
I think a good example of this is Daniel Marten, the central character in The Prophecy Chronicles.  He is where the entire project started.  I had a nucleus of an idea: a man taken from his family for reasons he can’t understand, who is driven to find a way home even though others are constantly trying to move him at cross-purposes to his own.  Sounds like a good start, right?  I knew I wanted a man that loved his family deeply, that couldn’t imagine life without them.  I also needed a man that had something unique about him.  It didn’t necessarily need to be the trait others were trying to exploit, but it did need to be something that could develop as his adventure unfolds.
As with all my characters, I spent a lot of time with Daniel, thinking about what that would mean for him.  How would he relate to the people around him?  Would he believe the story he’s being told, that he is a prophesied savior, or would he need proof?  Even then would he believe?  Would there ever be anything that would make him forsake his family?   I wanted to answer those questions, but above all I wanted him to be unexpected, and have room to grow.
I wanted Daniel to be a hero, so he started out as an antihero.  I wanted him to be strong, so came into the world of Naphthali weak.  That gave me the basis for growth, but he couldn’t be a clean slate.  He had to start somewhere.  I wanted him to be genuine, compassionate, and believable.  In my full-time job, I’m a pharmacist, a member of “the most trusted profession in America”, so I know a thing or two about compassion.  Consequently it was an easy decision to make Daniel a member of the same noble profession.  I guess that is also the crux of a central character—write what you know.  If you’re a pharmacist, you don’t make your protagonist an astrophysicist.  If you can’t make the character believable, you’re asking for trouble!
So there I had the basis for my character, a man I was going to do horrible things to.  I was going to send him through a crucible, to forge him into something different.  I knew he’d change, but I didn’t realize at the time the extent to which the things I did was going to affect him.  Keep in mind, this is a real person now, not just an automaton to do my bidding.  After all, I’m just a writer.
Daniel has changed since the story started, when he awoke on a battlefield.  He is stronger, but he’s also scarred.  He carries the sacrifices of those that believe in him like a heavy weight around his shoulders.  It bows him, and at times almost buries him.  I really do feel sorry for Daniel, a nice guy that was minding his own business until he became a character in my story.
Will he find the strength to be the man I wanted him to be?  The man I thought he was when the trilogy was nothing more than an outline?  There is something about him that makes me think he will, or at least I hope so.  As I said, I had a hand in his creation, but he’s his own man now.  I never imagined he’d carry such a burden, but he soldiers on, looking for a way to find his family and save Naphthali…
So that brings us back to the original question:  where does a good character come from?  I could say he sprang from my mind, fully formed, but that is a little too arrogant to be true.  I think a good character starts with an idea.  You mold that idea as best you can, and then you just…let him go.  Send him out into the world and see what happens.  If you’re lucky, he’ll go where you want, but he just might surprise you.

EXCERPT:
He heard a noise and turned to see Meadow Song walking across the map room at the tower's top. He walked through the double doors to greet her and was surprised when she pulled him in close, hugging him tight. His left arm wrapped around her waist and his hand slid up her back until it cupped the base of her neck. She tilted her head up as he leaned in and their lips brushed together. Her tongue darted in his mouth, soft and sweet, and a hot rush bloomed inside him as he pressed into her, responding to her need with his own. Barely registering over his desire, a part of Daniel's mind whispered, so different from Ashley. The feel, the taste…

He gasped and pulled away. Meadow Song looked up at him, her eyebrows raised. "What is it?" Her voice was low and husky.

Daniel hesitated before breathing, "I-I love you."

Her face lit with a soft radiance. "And I you. Why do you stop?"

Daniel's arm fell away and he stepped back. It was too easy to lose his resolve when he stood in her warm embrace. "I can't," he whispered. He closed his eyes and saw Ashley. "I may never see them again, but I can't betray them."

Meadow Song frowned before understanding dawned. "Ashley is a fortunate woman." Daniel's heart wrenched at the pain in her whisper.

When the truth she uncovers threatens to destroy the man she still loves, will she bury the story...or his career?

Excerpt

His touch left a trail of gooseflesh over her thighs, her shivers contrasting wildly with the heat nestled against the front of his slacks. A string of profanity grazed his lips where they crept against her skin. More.

He dragged her closer, but the dress bunched around her waist and created a surprisingly formidable barrier for something so damned soft. He tugged and shoved the fabric to no avail, then finally gave up and slipped a finger beneath her panties.

Though he didn’t enter her, the barometric pressure lowered with the force of her gasp. She caught her breath enough to utter a very unladylike oath, and he had every intention of following through on that particular demand.

He withdrew to his knees, gaining an edge of control with the distance. With a laziness that belied the charge of his heart through his chest, he explored her outermost contours with soft, intimate strokes. Little sounds of contentment spilled from her lips, a breathy staccato of demands for more. Clearly, he wasn’t the only victim of this crippling desire.

She was wet and unbelievably hot, and he was an ass. When this was over and the sun pasted a morning-after glare on what they’d done, she’d want to fall in love and charge head over heels for a happily-ever-after that wasn’t on the agenda. Not his anyway. But sex…dammit.

He bit back a groan that had nothing to do with the erection that had probably by now reshaped his zipper. He didn’t have any condoms.

“What’s wrong?” Her breathless words were punctuated by the trace of her nails down his abdomen. Her dress, at this point, was little more than a belt. She hadn’t worn a bra, but she hadn’t needed one. Her breasts—perfect handfuls, each of them—were fully bared and begging for his attention. Her soft, sleek hips gripped him, framing the silken vee of her drenched underwear. He stroked her there, watching desire churn in the oceanic depths of her eyes.

“No condoms,” he muttered, fully sheathed in some sort of Chloe trance. Whatever element she possessed belonged on the krypton block of the periodic table. She vexed him, and he’d have been smart to remember that before he’d gotten close enough for all of his blood to rush south and point her way—simple instructions for a senseless man.

No condoms.

For some reasons, his words incited a riot of blush over her face. She raised a white-tipped nail to her lips. “I…uh…in my bag. You…help yourself.”

Well, hell. Good for her, but she hadn’t planned on spending her evening in his arms. Which meant Chloe was prepared for, well, someone other than him. A man she didn’t know, per her own admission. The news stung but didn’t change the fact she lay there wet and trembling and offering Knox the latex key to her kingdom.

He’d cope.

Cover Reveal: Stone by Rie Warren Excerpt & Giveaway

Welcome to the cover reveal for STONE: AT YOUR SERVICE an erotic romance by Rie Warren, coming September 25th to a book retailer near you! This post is part of a tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions.

Rie will award a Carolina Bad Boys swag pack including an ARC of Stone to a randomly drawn winner during the tour via the rafflecopter at the end of this post (International winner).

Check out this gorgeous cover and find out more about the upcoming release:

And here's what the story is about!

One bad boy mechanic, one sexy romance writer, and an impossible situation. Hell on wheels? More like hell in high heels.

Bad boy mechanic Josh Stone likes to get his hands dirty any way he can—the filthier, the better. Ever since his wife walked out on him and their young son, he’s only had room in his heart for two loves: the kid and cars.

Roped into playing his best buddy’s gay boyfriend during a romance writers convention, the player meets the girl who’s gonna rock his world. Leelee Songchild. Shy, bashful, beautiful Leelee who blushes at the drop of a hat yet writes hardcore smut to rival Josh’s backlist of Penthouse Forum.

The only problem is his hands are tied. Josh can’t stab his old friend/fake lover in the back even though all he wants to do is take luscious Leelee to bed, and maybe, love her. When the truth comes out, all hell breaks loose. Too bad romance is just for books.

WARNING: Uncompromisingly hot sex, hilarious hijinks, and heartfelt romance—STONE is a triple threat.

How about a sneak peek to whet your appetite?

Ramada’s valet parking sucked balls and cost a mint. The hotel was lit up like a fairytale palace—or a whorehouse, depending how you looked at it--with people coming and going. It was busier than Stone's before a holiday weekend, when everyone in the tri-counties seemed to get a flat tire. Bellhops wearing pained grins pushed wheeled-carts toppling over with boxes from the convention attendees through the carousel doors.

I wielded our cart into the lobby, following Nicky as he strolled up to the check-in desk. His demeanor changed the second we walked through the doors. Gone was the scrappy South Cackalackee bruiser who knew how to take a hit and knock a fucker to the ground. He rolled up the sleeves on his oxford twice, neatened his hair back into a slick knot, and greeted people with effortless charm.

While we stood in line and he made small talk here and there, a commotion at the back of the queue drew my attention. A gal wrangled with her cart and then watched—eyes and mouth open wide—as four boxes crashed to the floor. Books, dresses, shoes, wigs . . . lingerie swam onto the polished marble floor.

I noticed her cock-up with the cart first.

Her legs second.

Her tits third.

Her face last.

Holy fuck.

“Who the hell is that?” I whispered, pointing at the babe surrounded by ten tons of shit spilling all over the floor.

Nicky glanced over my shoulder. “No idea. New kid on the block, I guess.”

“I’m gonna go help her.” I shouldered through the crowd and squatted down before her. “Need a hand?” Because one thing Ma had taught me was always help out a woman in need.

She blew a tendril of the lightest red hair from her brow. “I’d sure appreciate it.”

And I was a goner.

I packed her stuff back up under her guidance and stacked it smartly onto the cart, willing myself not to look at her as I stepped back. Definitely not remembering the lace, the frills, the full-on feminine lingerie I’d handled.

“My knight in shinin’ armor?”

Shaking my head, I backed away. I saw Nicky at the elevators, waiting for me. “Not really, miss.”

He needs a wife...

Single bodyguard Nick Calhoun has been given an ultimatum by his boss--find a wife or lose his cushy, high-paying job. Clients' wives are hitting on him and putting Nick, and his boss, in hot water. But monogamy? He's never been a white picket fence kind of guy, and he's not about to embrace the happily married lifestyle now. He needs a wife who doesn't care about his steamy, extra-curricular love life...and he knows just the woman to fit the bill.

She needs a home...

Adalaide Sinclair spent years caring for her ill grandmother. Upon Grammy's death, she's stunned to find herself evicted from the only home she's ever known and labeled a thief by her inheritance-hungry family. Addie needs to find a place to live and a job--fast. So when her childhood friend, Nick, proposes a no-sex marriage of convenience, she puts her dreams of true love and happily-ever-after on hold. Finding Prince Charming can wait a little longer, right?

But will their friendship survive the honeymoon?

When Nick and Addie unexpectedly win a dream honeymoon, they decide to go their separate ways during the ten-day vacation. Too bad a camera crew is waiting for them at the tropical paradise. Acting like a head-over-heels bride and groom for reality TV wreaks havoc on their no-sex agreement...and blurs the line between fantasy and reality. Will Nick and Addie remain married in name only, or will a romantic honeymoon for show turn them into true newlyweds?

Enjoy an excerpt:

The breeze off San Diego Bay ruffled the hem of Adalaide Sinclair’s borrowed white dress. She stood at the wedding arbor in the County Administration Center’s Waterfront Park, holding a single yellow rose, her pulse racing faster than a F/A-18 taking off from Miramar.

Don’t lock your knees. Passing out during the lunchtime ceremony would be a total wedding faux pas. Not what she needed when she felt like a complete fraud, fake, liar. Her stomach churned, trying to wash away the guilt.

Clicks sounded—photographs being taken by her friend Emily Rodgers. The digital images weren’t fun shots to be shared via Instagram, but pictures to place in a fancy white album, a remembrance of the wedding day.

Air rushed from Addie’s lungs. Breathe. But less and less oxygen seemed to go into her lungs. Uh-oh.

Do. Not. Lose. It.

Nick Cahill, a close friend since kindergarten, stood next to her. The wind blew the ends of his wavy light brown hair, making him look like a model. He wore black trousers, a slightly wrinkled white dress shirt and a black bowtie. He looked so handsome and very groom-like. Well, of course, he did, given he was the groom.

Her groom.

He’d been her best bud until middle school, an intermittent crush through high school and her platonic male BFF since then. She never thought she’d be adding “her groom” to the list.

Addie’s forehead throbbed. Her heart ached. A lump burned in her throat.

I can’t believe this is happening.

Week Blitz: Andreas by Bella Ross Excerpt

Andreas Vol I, II, and III by Bella Ross
BDSM Erotic Serial
Date Published: May 16, 2014

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

One determined Journalist….

Freelance journalist, Genevieve Parker, has just been handed the biggest story of her career. But there’s one problem…Going undercover as a submissive in one of the most exclusive BDSM clubs in the world was more than she bargained for. But that’s nothing compared to the man she meets there. Andreas Contos. Her assignment. Gorgeous. Powerful. Mysterious. Genevieve is fascinated…intrigued. But does her intense attraction and willingness to go places with him she’s never gone before sexually really have to do with writing her exposé? Feeling confused and overwhelmed, every instinct tells her to run before her professional facade comes crashing down…before she has to choose between obligation and desire....

One elusive billionaire…

Greek billionaire, Andreas Contos, is more than he seems. Between the powerful company he keeps and the secrets that lurk behind closed doors, trusting anyone is out of the question – especially the lush and sensual woman he just met. But there is something different about Genevieve – a guarded nature he’s anxious to penetrate. Unable to resist her, Andreas proceeds in taking her under his wing for the night to show her his world – a world of exquisite pleasure. As the two of them get deeper in exploring the eroticism of mind and body, danger watches them from the shadows….

Excerpt:
Her eyes travelled to the back of the club where a staircase rose up from the main floor in a circular fashion and disappeared mysteriously into the far recesses of the building. It reminded Genevieve of a labyrinth with ineffable depths. She knew the play area was up there and so were the rooms which members had to pay extra to use for private indulgences. She couldn’t even imagine what was going on up there right now. But down here, beside the subdued opulence and exclusive vibe, felt like a normal club at first glance. Well kind of, if you removed the waitresses rushing about in black, tight latex pants and red corsets, cinched so tight, Genevieve wondered how they breathed. Otherwise everything looked on the up and up.
Jesus. How was she going to pull this undercover shit off? Just the thought of such sexual activities taking place upstairs filled her with…with what? Disgust? No, that was too harsh of a word for what she was feeling. Curiosity? No, that wasn’t it either. Anticipation? No, not quite. Turned on? She froze. She swallowed.
Oh, God.
Turned on? Really, Genevieve? Was she nuts? Then again she stood in a BDSM club. That realization created all sorts of funny feelings in her.

And then she saw him. Those funny feelings instantly knotted in her stomach at the sight of him.

About the Author

Bella Ross wrote her first book (a novel) at eighteen a la Jackie Collins. But back then, unbeknownst to her, life was about to take her on a detour. As she set off on her new course, her dream of writing took a backseat and her entrepreneurial spirit flourished instead. But after many years of worldly pursuits, the urge to write returned.

With her love of travel, it is no surprise that her ‘Wanderlust Series’ & ‘Club Pluto Series’ take place in glamorous capitals or exotic locales around the world. Its the perfect backdrop/setting for her characters to explore and indulge their lusts and passions, loves and desires.

When she’s not writing, she’s reading, or gallivanting all over seeking new inspiration, or people watching while enjoying a latte at Starbucks and jotting down ideas.

She loves to hear from readers and looks forward to interacting through her social media channels. You can also sign up for her mailing list to be notified about new releases, giveaways and more.
