Book Description:
Mortal women surrender to
Dante’s seductions. He is a Drone, an immortal who feeds off their lifeforce
energy—the chi that keeps his kind alive. When his dimension is on the edge of
destruction, Dante must seek the help of one special woman.
Haley Moore is a Sha Warrior—a
mortal with excess lifeforce energy. She has always had a strong attraction to
Dante and when they meet again he thinks luck is on his side because his quota
of chi energy would be obtained after one scorching scene with this mortal. But
the problem is that he is overwhelmingly attracted to her and once with this
woman won’t be enough.
Haley tries to draw out the man
buried deep within the demon. Their fierce, undeniable passion unravels his
plans and threatens her life. Can Dante bear to abandon her when he leaves
Earth forever? Dante will have to choose whether to return to his world or to
give up his immortality and share his future with Haley.
Interview:
1) Where did you get the idea for the novel?
The series itself was inspired from a trip to Sedona, AZ. The third book in the series came about after a reader asked about a character, Dante, one of the villains in the first book (Desert of the Damned). Dante was an antagonist but not as evil as the demoness Gwyllain. Dante did have some redeeming qualities: He was in love with the heroine but he couldn’t have her, and he did help her in the story. The rest I can’t say because they are spoilers, but the reader wanted to know if Dante would find love. I had intended for him to be an antagonist throughout the series and hadn’t planned on him finding a love interest. I thought what a great idea if he could be redeemed in the end and find love. He is part human. What if he met the right woman???
2) Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?
2) Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?
For this book I did change the title. It started out as the Demon’s Embrace but another author at EC had a similar title so I had to change it. I gave my editor about eight different choices and we agreed on Damned and Defiant.
3) Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
3) Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
Finaling in the EPIE Awards for Dragon Witch, for Best Paranormal Novella 2011. I was up against New York Times/USA Today bestselling author Pamela Palmer. That was quite an honor. She won first place, of course, but to make it that far was very exciting.
4) Which came first, the title or the novel?
4) Which came first, the title or the novel?
For this book, the novel. Sometimes a title comes in my head and the story evolves. Sometimes a scene or setting comes into my head and the story unwinds. I start thinking What ifs?
5) What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
5) What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
I tend to read a couple books at the same time. I just finished Lynn LaFleurs’ new book, Armed and Delicious and it was very deliciously hot. I’m also reading Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. I like reading a variety of genres.
6) At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
6) At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
I usually write a note. I think it’s more personal. Either relating to something I was talking about to that person or relating to the book. For example for my demon books, I might say, “Demons need love too.”
