Description:
In a world
of shadows, a pure heart can be the most dangerous weapon of all.
Kara has been training for months to help
take down Brakken—the merciless black-wing who is making life hell for the
Demiáre. But when Julian discovers a scout has been tracking Kara, he wants her
out of the fight—even if it means breaking her heart in the process.
Gavin isn’t much better. He’s already
lost so much to Brakken and has no intention of allowing the woman he loves to
be the next sacrifice. He and Julian have their hands full trying to fight
Brakken’s army and keep Kara safe, especially after her recent visit to the
mythical white-wings. Since her return, she’s been acting decidedly…strange.
With a terrible battle looming, Kara
doesn’t have time to think about her conflicted feelings for Gavin and
Julian—or the fact that she’s developed an unnatural taste for Gavin’s blood.
But if she thought it was complicated evading mysterious scouts and fending off
vicious black-wings, she’s learning that’s nothing compared to loving two
strong-willed men.

Book Description:
Her lover
is back from the dead…but now there’s hell to pay.
When Kara Reed learns her bondmate,
Julian, is truly dead, and that Gavin has seemingly skipped town, she figures
things have hit rock bottom. But soon, a string of bizarre accidents has her
doubting those closest to her. And to make matters worse, the demon-king’s
brand carved into her best friend Abbey’s stomach is deteriorating by the day.
Then a powerful coven of witches issues
Kara an ultimatum. Bring them the blood of a true fallen angel—the only thing
that will heal Abbey—or die. Kara would do anything to help her friend. Problem
is, the only fallen angel she’s seen lately is the disoriented black-wing who
attacked her scouts. One who looks suspiciously like Julian. Getting his blood
might be easier if he was more interested in kissing her than killing her.
Caught between a coven of vengeful
witches and a murderous dead lover, Kara must deliver the blood, heal the slow
poison of Abbey’s brand, and save Julian from being consumed by the Abyss. But
to do this, she may need the help of the one man she swore never to trust
again…Gavin.

When the past flies in your face, clip its wings.
Slayer's Kiss , The Shadow Slayers, Book 1
Kara Reed is a supernatural failure. But where her magic falls
short, her fists get the job done. The criminal element doesn’t stand a chance
once she hits San Diego’s dark streets.
When two smoking-hot tenants move in next door, she thinks her
love life might finally be heating up. Just being near Gavin and Julian is
enough to make her want to offer her body on a platter.
Gavin and Julian know it’s only a matter of time before the
truth comes out. They’re fallen angels sent to watch over the king’s daughter,
one of the last females of her kind. Trouble is, she doesn’t seem to think she
needs watching—unless they’re watching her shimmy out of her clothes.
No matter how tempting her guardians, Kara’s not about to let
anything stop her from tracking down a sadistic killer who carves into his
victims and leaves them for dead. Even when she realizes her target may be the
very scourge of heaven from which her angels swore to protect her…
Product Warnings:
Contains a kick-ass heroine with a foul mouth,
a kind heart and a raging libido, and two fallen angel warriors who wouldn’t
have her any other way. Watch out for sex in the clouds, a magical island of
hedonism and a love triangle that gives new meaning to the term
“hot-wings”.
Interview:
1. Where did you get
the idea for the novel? Dark Flight is the third in the series, and the story
flowed naturally from the second book. That’s the great thing about writing an
urban fantasy series—I know what happens in the heroine’s world far in advance.
2. Your title. Who
came up with it? Did you ever change your title? I came up with the other
titles in the series, but my agent, Becca Stumpf, came up with this one. We
gave my editor a list of possible titles and Dark Flight is the one she loved!
3. Which came first,
the title or the novel? Definitely the novel came first. We were in edits
and the cover artist needed to get to work, and I’d been calling it book 3 the
entire time. I was like “oh, yeah!” when my editor reminded me that the book
couldn’t go much further without a title. LOL
4. Since becoming a
writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you? I think it’s
happening now, with Dark Flight! My first book came out last year, and it
usually takes a while for readers to discover a new author. Now I’m getting
e-mails from readers and really positive feedback—and it’s an amazing feeling!!
Interacting with people who love the series is my favorite thing!
5. What book are you
currently reading or what was the last book you read? I just finished After Hours,
by Cara McKenna. She’s one of my favorite authors. The most recent urban
fantasy was Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts series. I’m obsessed with that
series!
6. What was your first
book that you ever wrote (very first one you wrote, not published)? My first book
was a 550 page urban fantasy. I had no idea that was too long for a newbie to
get published. An agent asked me to cut it down, and in doing so I discovered I
needed to just put that one under the bed and move on. It was a book that
helped me learn to write, but wasn’t “the one” I wanted to put out there first
with my name behind it. It was never submitted.
7. What is your
writing process? I’m big on plotting out a story. I like to know what happens
and map it out in a chapter grid, complete with target word counts, setting,
POV, and the like. I write way faster when I’m on deadline—the tighter the
better. I think it helps both me and the kids to know when mama is serious and
in do-not-disturb hermit mode.
- Who
are your favorite authors of all time? There are too many to count! Also,
since I have so many friends who
are writers, it’s hard to choose! Most recently? Kim Harrison, Stacia
Kane, Erica Hayes, Adrian Phoenix, Lisa Kleypas, Cara McKenna, Lisa
Kessler, and Patricia Briggs—just to name a few.
- At a
book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do
you come up with stuff to say? I always write a note! When I meet
someone, it’s easy to come up with something nice to say.
- What
is something people would be surprised to know about you? I wanted to be a
secret agent when I was little. My best friend and I used to play CIA, and
we made ourselves CIA badges and everything! Although, looking back, I
guess secret agents wouldn’t really carry secret-agent ID cards, would
they? LOL
- How
do you react to a bad review? I don’t. I think people are fully entitled
to their own opinions of my books. I’m just flattered when someone takes
the time to read them! The only time I would consider a nice reply is when
they’re clearly talking about a different book and there’s a bit of
confusion. That’s only happened once, and the reviewer opted to take down
her review when she figured it out.
- How
did you celebrate the sale of your first book? I’m part of a wonderful
writing group and I’m so fortunate to have such supportive friends. We
like to celebrate all our writing accomplishments, and now that so many of
us are published, we get to go out to book birthday happy hours pretty
often. There nothing better than celebrating new releases with friends!
Thank you so much for
having me on Books & Other Spells! Happy reading!
