Book Tour: No Matter When by Nancy Adams Interview & Giveaway

BLURB:
Standing on the battlements of a 16th century Keep was the last place Gabriel Sutherland should be. Then again, being ‘shifted’ to 1503 seconds before a rocket blew his ass to bits wasn’t something he had envisioned either. Still, he was surviving the only way he knew how, as a soldier. Then Lilly arrived. Sweet, innocent Lilly. For a genetically superior soldier whose life had entailed of nothing but serving King and country, the arrival of Lilly proves too much for Gabe to ignore. For the first time in his life, Gabe can have a woman of his own and Lilly is the one.

Lilly Marten lives alone, her quiet life the result of a highly sensitive photographic memory. That changed when she arrived in the year 1503 seconds before Toronto’s popular C.N Tower came crashing down on top of her. Now she was never alone. Gabe was always near. With his unbelievably perfect features and intense green eyes, he is not a man easily ignored. Yet, uncertainty about her new life leaves Lilly with no choice but to put faith in a man she fears and whose strong physical presence causes her to desire more than just his trust.

EXCERPT:
            “What changed?”

“My perspective.” He looked seriously at her. “It’s you. You’re what’s changed, for me. I haven’t thought about the life I used to have since you arrived.”

Gabe lowered his mouth to the centre of her chest and pressed his lips to the skin above her heart. Lilly was the reason his perspective had changed. She was the reason he wanted to stay here. Her sweet innocence and natural beauty were only two reasons he no longer craved the life he used to have. “If you left…” He had to be careful how he explained what he felt without scaring her. “I’d be very upset.”

“You’d be upset if I went home?”

            “You can’t go home, Lilly.”

He sighed when she slid her eyes away from his. She didn’t get what he was saying, or rather trying to say. He tried another tactic. “I came from a time when love was unimportant. People were matched together according to their genetic profiles—the goal was to produce a generation without health-related issues who excelled in all academic and physical tests.”

“The perfect human?” Her lashes lifted like two small wings.

“Yes, the perfect human. There wasn’t any type of attraction or love in my life. I never thought about it, never worried about it—until now. I won’t allow you to get lost, out there”—he nodded to the world beyond the room, then touched her temple—“or in here. And if by some chance it happens, I’ll find you and bring you back.”

INTERVIEW:
1.   Where did you get the idea for the novel?

Funny enough, the idea for No Matter When evolved from the outline of another story.  My husband and I had a kid-free holiday in the Dominican Republic a few years back and after soaring the high from two very delicious Pina Coloda’s
(yes I’m a cheap drunk) I realized that the outline I was working had the potential to become two separate books in two different genres.
At the time I never thought anything would come of it, lets face it tasty rum drinks are not the best muse to have, but thanks to my stubborn streak I now have both stories published. It’s crazy how things turn out sometimes.

2.   Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?

Yes, I did come up with the title after a brainstorming session with my editor at the time. No Matter When was not my first choice. My first title was Worth the Risk, but I learned a few weeks into editing that my publisher already had published a book with that title. I was kinda bummed at first, but I realized that I’m not the only one to go through this and besides the excitement  of being published overrode everything else anyways. So I came up with No Matter When, with the idea for the future books in the series to follow suit, like No Matter Where or No Matter What, but I’ll settle on those titles when the time comes.

3.   Why did you pick this genre? What do you like about it?

No Matter When is a combination of Historical, Time travel and Sci-fi. I love historical romance. It’s my ‘go to’ genre when I don’t know what to read. I get lost so easily in the plot and setting it’s scary. I love everything about them, the clothes, the castles, the Lord and Ladies, not to mention I’m a HUGE history geek.        As for Time Travel and Sci-fi, I’m not a hardcore fan-girl, but I have watched many…many sci-fi A & B movies and TV shows. There is such a wide range when it comes to both Time travel and Sci-fi genres, and as long as you stay with in the guidelines you’ve created, you can let your imagine take over.  I really like that.

4.    Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?

I would have to say seeing my book in print. That was the best feeling ever.

5.    What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?

I just finished reading a Gena Showalter book titled The Nymph King. I love her writing, she has the best sense of humor. I’ve actually burst out laughing reading some of her books. The romance is pretty juicy too! *wink wink*

6.    What is your writing process?

My process is all over the place.  Honestly, I write what I want to write. If there is a story waiting to get out, I don’t fight it and just go with the flow, finish it that first then move on. I realize that this isn’t the best scenario but I find working with my mush is better than working against it. However, when I do start a book I don’t move on until that book is finished. Which might take a while because I write what my publisher considers Super-novels (80,00 plus words).
I have also been known to write out random scenes as they come to me and use them when appropriate in the book. I will also write out scenes for a book idea I’m not even working on and save them for when I do start those books.

7.    At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?

I haven’t had the opportunity yet. But with my serial killer handwriting…eek! I’d probably just sign my name.

8.    What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

         I hate to cook!
I realize I’m not the norm and I’m totally fine with that. Of course it doesn’t help that I was recently diagnosed with a Gluten allergy and that I get bored with food really quick (I don’t do left over’s…unless it’s turkey, then I’m good.)
Alas, I have two kids and a husband that need to eat and if I want my kids to have diet that consists of more than just meat (like when my husband makes dinner), I have to cook. But I want to go on record and say I’m not happy about it. Lol

9.    How do you react to a bad review?

I’m  not fan, obviously. What writer is?  But you have to accept that everyone has their own opinion and respect it. I know I don’t like it when people tell me my opinion is wrong just because it is different from theirs.
I think I’d also like to know what it is they didn’t like. The writing game is new to me so I want to learn from my mistakes.

10.How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?

I did the same thing I did when I got my first contract, MY HAPPY DANCE with my sidekick (aka, my daughter). Although, she could careless about the books, she just likes to shake her rump. Lol  Oh! I also went out got myself a Vanilla Bean Latte from my favorite Coffee House, no Tim Horton’s double-double that day!

Vanilla Bean Latte. Ohhh! That sounds yummy I think I’ll go get one of those.
ciao

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
My name is Nancy Adams. I am a full-blooded Canadian, right down to the maple syrup running though my veins. I enjoy watching hockey but despise skating...and the cold. I enjoy a good helping of Tourtiere with a side of Poutine as much as the next person, yet I am only bilingual when it comes to swear words.Besides writing, I have three small - but legal - addictions: bed linens, lavender and books. All of which are replenished on a regular basis. Reading into the wee hours of the morning is one of my many bad habits, next to spontaneously rearranging furniture and randomly painting rooms in my house.

  2. This combination of genres always gets me. I find it hilarious when people say they don't like historical fiction but they do like time travel stories despite them having these wonderfully huge historical elements. This books sounds like it's got a great balance to it!

    1. I do the same thing but with Historical! LOL
I look for that historical element first and then everything else second. The only exception is that I like all genres, so everything else is a added bonus for me.

      Thanks for stopping by K.C.

  6. I like time travel books, but not usually set in this time period. That said, it sounds like a very interesting premise...2 people being sent back to the same year and same place from different places and I assume, from different time periods themselves. Not something you read everyday. I'm planning on putting this book on my to-buy list.
