EXCERPT:

I'm dangerous to you. You have to leave. I don't want to hurt you."

I noticed the skin I was wiping was getting rougher. When I moved the shirt I saw small whiskers emerging from his face. He kept trying to move away from me. Tired of it all, I grabbed him by the shoulders. When his eyes connected with me I noticed they were almond shaped and so dark that I could see myself in them.

"Adam, I need you to concentrate."

"Run," he growled.

"Adam, stop being stupid. I'm already scared, and I don't need you making it worse than your face change going on." When I stood up Adam looked as if he took a breath of relief.

Tough! I wasn't leaving him. I just needed to get to my cell phone in my pocket. Then I slipped behind him and wrapped my arms around him. At first, he tensed, but when I started to stroke his hair he relaxed against me.

"Just lay here and help will come. I know a friend who will help us."

"No, you don't know understand. I may not be able to control myself now. Eve—"

"Shh. It'll be fine. You've lost too much blood to argue with me."

I knew he didn't really agree but he was too weak. I had my phone in my right hand and dialed a number I thought I would never need.

The phone rang two times before he answered. "Bryan."

I unconsciously grabbed Adam tighter.

"This is Bryan. Speak."

"It's me, Eve. I need your help."

I waited. It seemed like forever but then he spoke. "You never listen, Eve. Give me your address."

Toni Edge is a former juvenile delinquent and honorary member of the truancy club. Now, she likes to teach teens who remind her of herself. She also likes to read everything, a habit she picked up during her truancy days. For all the rest of her free time she likes to write young adult paranormal/science fiction stories that would have made her teen years so much clearer, if the stories had been true.
