Guest Post: Sun Damage by Nikki Rae Giveaway

Blurb:
Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn't be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn't know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

How Sophie Was Born by Nikki Rae:
Sophie came to me on what I thought would be one of the worst experiences of my young adult life.
I was fifteen and my family and  I went on vacation to Aruba (which I was completely against from the beginning). I went swimming the first day we were there, and I promptly got sun poisoning three hours later.
I was stuck for the rest of the week in excruciating pain, in a hotel room where there were three channels in French and a notebook. I slept a lot, and between the haze of sleep and aloe vera, Sophie’s story came to me.
Call it delirium or whatever, but she just appeared, fully formed. She had magenta hair and a nose ring. She had pale skin and green eyes. She was wearing a tan trench coat when I first saw her, and I didn’t know why.
She was allergic to the sun, and the type of thing I was experiencing happened to her a lot, so she had to cover up her body when she went outside.
As time went on, I also saw that she had a lot of tattoos and a lot of scars. I knew that she was incredibly closed off, and at that time, I couldn’t figure out why. But I found out other things. Like how much she loved playing piano and all about her family.
I wrote everything down. And the more I wrote, the more I found out about her.
I discovered why Sophie was so broken and it was up to me to figure out how she could be put back together.
The best thing about Sophie is how instantly I fell in love with her and her story. Our relationship was easy, and I found myself waking up early and going to bed late just so I could spend more time with her, writing her story.
The most frustrating thing about her was that because she was so closed off, it was really hard to make her get over everything that happened to her. When I created Myles for her, I knew they were meant to be together. He was calm and patient and didn’t judge her, and that’s what she needed. But it was extremely hard to get her to do anything with him, even just driving in a car with him was hard in the beginning.
Then came more rewards for me. Because every time I did see her open up with Myles, I saw her grow, and that was something I always wanted for Sophie.
Now that I’ve finished her story and I know how it ends, I can’t say I could have seen it going any other way. Her life ends up in a place that neither of us were expecting, but I think we’re both happy, which is all I could really ask for.
