Book Tour: Waning Moon by PJ Sharon Review & Interview & Giveaway

Waning Moon

by PJ Sharon

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
In the year 2057, in a post-apocalyptic world where a global shift threatens the remainder of the population with extinction, sixteen-year-old genetically enhanced Lily Charmichael has more immediate problems. Her uncle is dying of cancer and her healing abilities are ineffective against the blood ties that bind them. In order to find a cure, Lily must leave the protection of her quiet town and journey into the trading city of Albany, all while avoiding the Industry, an agency that would like nothing better than to study and exploit her abilities.
 Seventeen-year-old Will Callahan has been searching for his father since severe storms blasted through the Midwest, killing his mother and sister. When he learns that his father may be in the city, he catches a ride with Lily, a girl who has come to his rescue more than once. As the two embark on a dangerous journey, the attraction between them grows. But the secrets Will’s keeping could put her in far more danger than traveling to the city with him, and if he was any kind of man, he would have told her to run the minute she found him.
EXCERPT:
“Wait,” I said before he got far, “I bet I could find you something to eat.” I tried to appeal to what I knew would work for any hungry male. “Would you like some of this?” I asked. My bag of premium jarred honey lay across my back, and I figured it wasn’t really a meal, but I was willing to bet he’d eat whatever he could get his hands on. Or maybe he could trade Mrs. Higgins for some soup or a place to bathe. She would likely offer him something herself once she saw him. He was clearly in need of both.
The boy eyed the honey as I pulled a glass jar out of my pack, but he put his hands up and backed away. “No, I...thanks anyway…I’ll be fine…I gotta go…” He spun away and strode across the street toward an alleyway. It wasn’t like I could invite him back to the farm. Sam would kill me if I brought home a stranger. His warnings rang clear in my head even as I caught up to the boy and grabbed his arm.
“C’mon. Let me…”
The stranger whirled around, his grey eyes cold and hard. “I don’t need some girl to rescue me!”
Stunned, I took a step back. Not only did his words come as a complete surprise, but the color of his eyes rendered me speechless. I hadn’t noticed beneath his shaggy bangs before, but his eyes were a crystalline blue-grey that reminded me of an icy lake or a stormy sky. Brilliant, backlit with sunshine, and rimmed by dark, thick lashes. I sucked in a breath, confused by somehow feeling happy while being horribly offended at the same time. My brain kicked in and my heart felt the sting.
Review:
I thought this book was good. It was like the Hunger Games (more Revolution, the new TV series that on right now) mixed with paranormalness. You know now that I think about it, it is really similar to Revolution. Girl lives outside cities, in a small town. Brother somehow ends up in the hands of the boss people. She wants to save him. Get helps from a boy that is sent to get her (shh she doesn't know that). She finds out about the boy and hates him. Then forgives him later and he saves her life.
One thing I like about books more than shows is that you know the characters feelings and you can connect to them more. You also see the little steps, like how she ends up liking him,etc.
4/5 Stars.
Interview:
1) Where did you get the idea for the novel?
I live out in the Berkshire Hills in a small remote town with neighbors who love living in the woods as much as my husband and I do. We often get together and talk about current events and contemplate our survival strategies if the world as we know it comes to an end. We aren’t quite as bad as the Doomsday Preppers, but we do try to be prepared for whatever the future holds. Humans are the most adaptable creatures on the planet, and in keeping with my “hopefully ever after” philosophy, I wanted to show how we might survive if life as we know it took a turn for the worse.
2) Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title? Which came first, the title or the novel?
I decided on the title. It’s funny, but titles come to me quickly after the concept for the books. The story had a race against time feel to it. I knew the environment was a big factor in this story, and WANING MOON captured the essence of both the dying of the planet and Lily’s race to find a cure for her uncle’s cancer. It was then easy to incorporate references into the book.
3) Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
Tough question. There have been so many great highlights. Finishing my first manuscript stands out. It’s such an accomplishment when you think about how many people want to write a book and how many actually complete one. Each time I write THE END, I have a bittersweet feeling of euphoria and sadness, because I know I’ll miss my characters and their journey. I think that was one of the reasons I wanted to write a trilogy. Oh, another highlight was when Kristan Higgins told me she cried at the end of HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES, and how much she loved my writing. That gets me through those moments when my doubt monster is wreaking havoc.
4) What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
I’m almost at the end of Huntley Fitpatrick’s debut novel, MY LIFE NEXT DOOR. Such a sweet teen romance!
5) What was your first book that you ever wrote (very first one you wrote, not published)?
Uggh! Island of Women. Need I say more?
6) What is your writing process?
I’m a pantser by nature, but I’ve learned the value of at least creating a timeline and jotting down the turning points in the story, as well as the dark moment and big climax scene. I make sure I know what the goal, motivation, and conflict are for the main characters and what their fatal flaws are that they have to overcome by the end of the story. It saves me a lot of revision on the back end if I know these details up front. Whatever happens on the page after that is organic and magical. I think that if I plotted the whole book out, there would be no point in writing it.
7) Who are your favorite authors of all time?
I fell in love with Barbara Kingsolver as a young adult. Her prose and storytelling are marvelous, but my all-time favorite is Diana Gabaldon. Her OUTLANDER series is pure genius. I heard her speak at last year’s RWA national convention and was amazed and thrilled to hear that she doesn’t plot her stories either.
8) At a book signing, do you just sign your name or do you write a note? How do you come up with stuff to say?
I try to personalize my autograph for each book. I use a quote from the book or a sentiment that is meaningful. I have a few quick lines I use in a pinch. “Peace and Blessings” is always a lovely wish for my readers.
9) What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
That I sing opera in the shower—I take very long showers.
10)How do you react to a bad review?
I cringe, try to find anything constructive that makes me a better writer, and then let it go. That process now takes about thirty seconds. I also remind myself that “Wow, I’m getting reviews…for a book…I wrote. How many people can actually say that?” A half a minute is about all the time I’m willing to spend pondering a bad review. I have work to do. I’ve got another book to write. My hope is always that each one will be better than the last.
11) How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I had my critique partners over to my house to celebrate with me. They are the best!
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
I knew I would be a writer someday when I was a little girl sitting on my grandpa’s knee and telling him stories that he would help me put on paper. By the time I entered kindergarten I could already read and write, and I couldn’t wait to look up new words every morning in the ginormous Webster’s Dictionary that sat in the book case at the bottom of our stairs. I would get on the bus and ask my friends, “Do you know what pulchritudinous means?” Between that and challenging the boys to push-up contests at the bus stop, I mostly sat alone on those bus rides to school. But that just meant I had more time to make up stories.
I went on to many other endeavors in life, including the world of figure skating, and later, earning a bl
ack belt in martial arts. Though I was a mom at seventeen, I did manage to finish school and somehow made it through college, earning a degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. After nineteen years, two sons, a divorce, and some fairly lean years, I found that it’s true what they say about life beginning at forty. It was about that time when I reunited with the love of my life and worked my way to owning my own business as a Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer, and Yoga Instructor—all of my favorite things. To make my bliss complete, I moved out to the Berkshires and found my muse waiting for me there amongst the lilacs and humming birds.
I now write Extraordinary Stories of an Average Teenage Life in order to share hope with others, especially teens, that no matter how tough life gets, there is always a bright spot waiting just around the corner. My published books include the award winning YA Novels, HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES, ON THIN ICE, and SAVAGE CINDERELLA, available through Amazon and B&N Booksellers.
Review:
I really like this book. It was really interesting and had me turning the pages all night long. We got to get to know the characters more, they saved more souls and they all got new powers. I loved that Lucy and Max got so much closer. They were close before but now you get to see how their love and each other effect the other one. How they can feel each other when they are near (and also what happens when bad things happen). It's great!
When reading it, you really connect with Lucy and how frustrated she gets when she can't find her sister.
4/5 Stars.
Book Tour: Life & Death of Lily Drake by T. Michelle Nelson Interview
For Lily Drake, slaying vampires is easy...
Dating them is the hard part.
Lily Drake is your everyday hard-working single mom…until a gorgeous vampire shows up on her front door who she mistakenly assumes is her blind date for the evening. As one crazy scenario after another unfolds, Lily finds herself falling in love with two vampires, slaying the evil ones, and being prophesied as the savior of the entire undead race.
Deciding between pizza and Chinese take-out will no longer be one of the hard decisions facing Lily Drake once she is immersed into vampire society. Humanity or immortality? That doesn't hold a candle against this question - which of the two handsome vampire cousins?
The Life and Death of Lily Drake is not your typical vampire love story. It’s a tale about the humorous mistakes a woman makes simply trying to survive not only life, but the dating scene.  How will Lily manage working full-time, taking care of her young son and fighting the undead at every turn?
Lily will have to figure it out, but who better to save the world than a mom?
Interview:
1.            Where did you get the idea for the novel?
My best friend (who is a journalist) and I were talking about the current fascination with vampire movies, tv shows and books and the lack of any main characters we could truly relate to. Most of the heroines are young, don’t have children or any type of responsibilities and seem to have a need to be protected. I wanted to write a story with a more mature and stronger main character.
2.            Your title. Who came up with it? Did you ever change your title?
This question is actually hilarious. The book had several names, all of which I would refuse to tell you even if you tortured me.  Yes, THAT bad. Finally I came up with Life and Death of Lily Drake.
3.            Which came first, the title or the novel?
Definitely the novel!
4.            Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
Wow, I don’t know if I could pinpoint one thing. There’s that first acceptance and you find out your novel is going to be published, then the cover reveal (which I was thrilled about, I love this cover), then all the interviews and the good reviews. Ask me again after the release and maybe I’ll tell you it was my first book signing or release party. This is a new process for me and I’m still experiencing it!
5.            What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
The last book I read was Robert McCammon’s Swan Song. I have a total author crush on him now.
6.            What was your first book that you ever wrote (very first one you wrote, not published)?
I don’t know if I ever gave it a title, but it was a book loosely based on how my husband and I met, only I made his character a serial killer.  I know, right?  He never read it, but I’m pretty sure he’d get a kick out of it.
7.            What is your writing process?
Make massive amounts of coffee, close the door and get started.  Sometimes it flows right out, other times not so much.
8.            Who are your favorite authors of all time?
Edith Wharton, Margaret Mitchell, Edgar Allan Poe.
9.            What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have been a vegetarian for over 25 years.  Oh, and last year my son and I were cast in small roles in a zombie movie.  We were zombies!
10.    How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
My family and I  went out to eat.  We do that a lot, not to celebrate so much but more because I really hate to cook!
Character Bio:
Character Bio – Introducing Zane
~~
Thanks so much for hosting a leg of my tour today! I’d like to introduce you to one of the characters from the series that did not get much attention in Lacrimosa – Zane:
A member of the Angelic Order of Mediators, and trained by Gabriel himself, Zane is next in-line for the Council. One of the youngest angels (he’s the angelic equivalent of a teenager), Zane biggest strength is his loyalty and ethics. Zane understands the rules of Celestium and his order, and accepts them fully. That is, except where Nesy is concerned. Best friends since they came into existence, Zane has harbored a secret crush on Nesy forever. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her, nothing he wouldn’t sacrifice...including his standing in within the Council.
Mea Culpa (available for free on Amazon), chronicles the depths of sacrifices he has made for Nesy leading up to Libera Me. In Libera Me, you get to learn more about Zane and hear his story!
Zane  Quote:  “But there is nothing, no trace that she’s ever existed. She is not here. She will never be here again.
Because of me.” (Libera Me Chapter 2)
Review:
This book was great! It was exciting and full of drama. It was great that celebs got a chance to be regular people for a little. And the changes these people went though, amazing. I love LOVE Cyril. He is so funny! And a crocodile! He wears clothes, drinks all the time and has a Pooh bear to sleep with. And he would say the funniest things!! I don't mean funny jokes, i mean funny like he sees his trainer/owner naked once and freaks out because he (the trainer) has an ugly growth that he should get removed.
I love that we hopped around to different people's point of view. We got to see how the staff saw the celebs and how the celebs saw the stuff and the others. We even got to see how the crocos saw the people.
4.3/5 stars.
~ALISIA
Excerpt:
“When do we find out who won the draw, Lucy?  It’s so exciting.”  Ginny spoke up with her eyes glittering feverishly. Lucy looked at her fondly, Ginny was her friend, and an employee, yet there was no denying that to every male with a pulse who didn’t know her well it appeared that her twenty-year-old body was built for sex.  Her mind was built some time later.  Sadly, she was also a natural blonde, which sure as hell didn’t help her in the, we-believe-you-are-intelligent-truly-we-do, stakes! Lucy was very protective of the youngster, and it showed.
“Miss Peters is doing the draw on her talk show.”  Lucy continued with a huge grin at Ginny’s excitement.  “The list will be sent immediately, along with any special dietary needs, and the numbers of staff accompanying those chosen.  I have been told to restrict their staff to two.  Due to the fame of most of the people in the draw, they will be listed under pseudonyms.  We want them to have a holiday--paparazzi free.  That is a huge part of what has attracted them here, these people want to be treated just like everyone else.  Or at least they think they do!”
“She, gets to come no matter what--doesn’t she?”  Ginny was almost squeaking she was so excited.  Yet still managing to say ‘She’ with dignified non-blasphemous restraint.
“Yes, Ginny.  Miss Peters is the reason all the other beautiful people want to come.  They all want to be the first of the big names on the ‘A’ list to check us out and hopefully give us the thumbs up!
The entire room turned as one when Cyril made his regular morning entrance and headed for his favorite area near the floor to ceiling windows.  He liked looking out over the beautiful lagoon.
“Jeez, is it that late?  Sorry, Cyril me old mate, I lost track of the time.” Skeet stood as he spoke.
Well I am so touched that you forgot me!  Am I that unnecessary!  What would it take for me to be more memorable?  Hmm?  I am twenty-eight feet long.  I wear my own little collection of designer t/shirts and sun hats.  My sun glasses are Gucci, and yet I’m forgettable.  Sigh!  Life is so unjust.
Skeet hurried out to the kitchen,  returning  with Cyril’s breakfast.  He threw the live chickens one by one, and Cyril did his usual appreciative, snap--crackle and slobber routine.  He then lay quietly drinking his gallon of beer.  Being a 28 ft long Crocodile had distinct advantages.  Cyril smiled his crocodile smile and belched loudly.
Well that is much better.  You lot are my family you know.  Odd—granted, you certainly are.  Yet I love you all, in my own way.  I mean I haven’t eaten any of you—have I?  Just isn’t done.  Life is good, and the women in this place…mmmm, makes me wish I were a frog, one kiss, and whoo-eeee!  I wonder how many of my little family know just how cute they are.
Cyril, having drawn only the briefest acknowledgment at his presence; contented himself by farting and snoring in harmony and stink.  Life at ‘Dudes’ was—so—normal.
“Lucy, they already know about the restrictions—no cell phones, no faxes?  No television, all that sort of stuff?”  Asked, Didi with a grin on her face.
“Yep, they do.”
“So I had better be prepared for a lot of withdrawal symptoms, hey, Lucy?” Said Doc.
“Probably, Doc.”
 “When we are all relaxed and comfortable, I’m going to open up a general question time.  Anything—anything at all that might have crossed your minds; things that we haven’t covered or you’re unsure about, please feel free to ask--anything! If you just want to confirm something we’ve already covered, or have a gripe about something, now is the time to do it. Once our guests arrive I will have little or no time for a one-on-one with any of you. So people, ask away.”
“So, beautiful—what are you doing after work?”  Bluey, asked.
“Anything I like, Bluey boy!  But I don’t date outside my species!”  Lucy smiled sweetly at him, daring him with a look to say more.
“Huh?”
“Precisely!”
That shut him up--temporarily.
Cyril belched again. That mongrel, Bluey, better keep his hands of Lucy.  I wouldn’t need a whole lot of reasons to eat that bastard.
“So, Lucy” Bluey said with his hands on his hips, “ Lemme get this straight all right? This bunch of spoiled-arse whatever’s;  are paying half-a-million bucks per couple, plus the same again for each staff member they bring with them.  All for the privilege of being normal human beings for one month?”  Bluey was clearly unimpressed at this brand of stupidity. “Don’t make any damned sense to me at all. Bunch of wimps if you ask me.”
“Bluey … these people have so many restrictions in their lives. They can’t do normal things that we all take for granted without a dozen camera’s following them every inch of the way. So please lose the attitude. Okay. They are simply here for a holiday. One we need to help them enjoy … got that?”
“Yeah, yeah whatever.”
Lucy chose to ignore his muttered agreement. She turned instead and directed herself to the remaining staff.
“Okay people. So long as we are clear on one very important point. These folks want the freedom of going anywhere they want, without question—or paparazzi.  They have gone to a great deal of trouble to ensure the press doesn’t know where they are.”  Lucy looked at the assembled faces and continued,
“The names you will be instructed to call them are up to them.  Should they decide that they wish to be referred to as … um… ‘Hey You!’  We will do it.  Is that very clearly understood, everyone?”
Mutterings of, “Yeah--no problem … gotcha, right, and … whatever!”  All wafted through the air at once.
“Uh-huh—perfect—their jaded palates and boringly perfect lives are about to get sat on their heads—I think they might just find Australia—unforgettable.”
About the Author:
Authors are meant to enjoy talking about themselves, right? Wrong! It is so difficult to blow your own trumpet without sounding big-headed or apologetic or both at once … “I do apologize for sounding big-headed.” You get my drift? I can do this straight up or in my normal (Occasionally) manner.
So here we go…I have had the privilege of having 3 books published by Taylor Street Publishing. Books one and two are biographical and written under my pen name of Stacey Danson. ‘Empty Chairs’ and its sequel ‘Faint Echoes of Laughter’ have been well received and for that I will always be so very grateful. They are difficult books to read, dealing as they do with the explosive topic of Child abuse in its most horrific of forms. When I was writing Empty Chairs I badly needed a release of some sort; somewhere I could focus my mind apart from the memories I had to relive. ‘Dudes Down Under’ is the result.
The book is Romantic and dare I say it very funny in an over the top, off the wall, ‘what the hell did she just say?’ way. The characters I loved writing. They became my friends. They gave me an avenue to explore strong women, vulnerable men, and love with all its faults and foibles. They also allowed me to explore comedic writing to its fullest extent.
Reviewers tell me they cried laughing at the comedy … and at times simply cried. I have a sequel (Dudes Does Hollywood) in the planning stages.
I have also recently completed a psychological thriller…phew! Challenges are something I never avoid. Only time will tell if my exploration of different genres will be successful.
